BiP gelded?
-
I just bred a pasture of 10, even bred blue 2 gens to an A 2 gen, and bip was gelded by SBA. Is that normal for 2gens, with full pasture bonus?
Colt in question:

Out of only 10 horses I wouldn't say that's abnormal, just unlucky. I usually breed over 100 gen 3's with the same stats a season and end up with about 25 keepers (and I do manually snip some.)
-
And if BiP failed, it's safe to assume that everything else will too?
EDIT I'm playing with the other foals, and having SBA pass! I tested the first 2 (BiP and a filly) via the email link, and it was acting weird. Now others are passing SBA on the regular server... is it possible there was some kind of mistake? -
You are not being careful about inconsistency in your breeding stock. I bet the foal got so inconsistent it was gelded.Sorry not currently taking any request for egg/straw/horse sales. Everything I have for sale is already listed.

That was it! Wow, thanks

I'm glad to have it confirmed that my very strict cutoff that all my breeding stock must be consistent is a good thing. Occasionally I wondered if it was unnecessary. Now I won't worry about it!Ramshorn Ranch

Surprised the game would call something the best in pasture and then geld it. I cannot figure out how the game ranks horses.
-
I am not sure exactly how the pasture qualifies a foal as the "best". My guess is that it is based strictly on breeding score. Or a combination of breeding score and PT score, maybe?
However, the breeding advice button will geld/spay horses based on multiple tests. Comparing the breeding score to the parents, looking at consistency, etc.
So I think what happened here is that the best in pasture foal did have the best "score" but was gelded because of the consistency parameter. The other foals that are "worse" than the best in pasture, probably had better consistency and a decent enough breeding score to pass all of the breeding advice tests.
I would think theoretically you could have other situations where your best in pasture might be gelded.
Say for example you have 2 stallions in the pasture, an A paper and a C paper. Your best in pasture is a B papered colt sired by the A papered stallion. That colt would still be gelded by breeding advice, because his sire is better. Another colt in the pasture might also be B papered, worse than your best in pasture, but if he was sired by the C papered stallion he might pass breeding advice.Ramshorn Ranch

Interesting

Yeah. I’ve spent too much brainpower thinking about this while trying to figure out the top stallion leaderboards. I think there are three different metrics — physical training, breeding score, and consistency.
I think bip is best breeding score.
I thought breeding score is what was being judged in BA/SBA and I thought PT & con had no impact on if something got gelded. So apparently that isn’t right. There must also be a pt + con = geld tipping point (or maybe it works like white factor and it’s con(pt) = geld. Idk.)
I’m still not sure how this piece of the puzzle fits.
So yeah. Interesting.

It definitely tripped me up that others passed SBA, when BiP failed.

I just went through the Testing 101 Section on the FAQ page, and if read very carefully it does have some tidbits that those who are interested in this conversation might benefit from.

I appreciate that!

Ram, I’ve read that like nine times now and I don’t follow. If sba is just breeding ability then why would consistency geld a horse? I kind of feel like it’s a math equation where each of the breeding/consistency/PT impact it. Maybe not PT. I don’t know.
-
I think there is some "hidden" information not expressly included in the FAQ. Ammit pretty clearly stated above that the best in pasture horse in question was gelded because of consistency.
So that tells me that consistency is part of the BA/SBA testing.Ramshorn Ranch

Yes. I have said many times that consistency is part of it because members asked for it to be. PT is not used in any altering considerations. PT is just a derived rating score like blue/red/star etc. The game does not use it for any testing.Need to contact me? Read this first.
