Happy 17th Anniversary HAJ! Your very first celebration gift arrives today.
  • image

HuntAndJump was officially opened on June 1st, 2006 and every year we hold a big anniversary celebration in the month of June. It just so happened though that I am unavailable on May 21st through June 2nd, and June 8th through 23rd. That means packing a whole bunch of awesome stuff into June this year is going to be tough. So instead of trying to make it all work in June, I am spreading out the load. You will get some stuff in May, some in June, and some in July.

Every year we have a theme. This year it is "Hold Your Head Up High!" We are celebrating our diversity and what makes us all unique this year. And that means adding some more diversity to our income horses in lots of ways. Is this and all the saddlebred and friesian talked linked ... it's a mystery. ;) What could this possibly mean?! :)) (Here is a hint, it is related to those new breeds you have been making.)

    _____

We are kicking off herd diversification with a huge and mean HUUUUUUGE change up to herd helpers. I have gone through and made 53 previously special event-only herd helpers, now available for random creations. Next month we will get getting a bunch of new herd helpers that will be all normal perfect create ability. I wanted to make sure our exceptional breeders still got lots of new horses to play with. The best way I could think to do that was to throw open the door on our huge library of prior herd helpers and let members create the ones they love the most. Some of these are very rare and have not been released in years.

Every herd helper listed below can now be obtained randomly. No special event required. Events marked with an 'e' are exceptional.

    A Rhythm of Four -e
    All Washed Up -e
    Black Sea
    Blue Hawaiian
    Bone Fire -e
    Breaking Break
    Bring Back The Sun -e

    Eye of the Tiger
    Festival of Lights

  • Oh wow! How fantastic! Thank you so very much!
  • Yay!! This is awesome, now I just have to get better at checking the herd helper share lists lol
  • This is amazing!! Thank you so much!! :D
  • Amazing news and I love the theme! Thank you so much, Ammit :)
  • I really like how there is a sale on rerolls the day this got introduced. Thank you.
  • Oooo this is so exciting. Thankyou so much!
  • I'm SO excited about the herd helpers! I wanted to say thank you for this, as well as your diversity theme you chose.

To some that theme may not be a big deal, but for a lot of us this site is a comfort and respite from the stresses of real life. Knowing that this site is welcoming and safe, especially as things get increasingly scary in the US, is really wonderful, for me at least.

I also really appreciate the work you put into cultivating the community here. I'm still fairly new, but I've seen how friendly, generous, helpful, and genuinely caring the people here are and how you encourage those things. So happy anniversary HAJ, and thanks for all you do, Ammit! And everyone here as well. :x
  • Thank you Ammit. I'm so excited! When I first found this game, I was looking for a game that I could play long term and encompass some of my interests like genetics and horses. When I read that it was meant for busy adults, I figured why not try it out. Since then I've been playing a lot. The community is amazing and everything you do for us is amazing.

  • I came here from an old reddit thread, as I'm an avid video game player and there's a big gap in the market for GOOD horse games. Most of them are barely functional and aimed at 5 year olds.

The genetics were a steep learning curve for me but it's one of my favorite parts now, as well as how each horse is one of a kind! Of course the community is a large reason I stayed. :o) In case that helps.

  • I remember playing a few decent horsey computer/video games when I was in Jr. High and High School. I went to see if there was anything like good old Gallop Racer 2004 still around for my Xbox. No luck.

I can't remember how I first found out about Hunt and Jump years ago. I played on Bluegrass for a long time before Mesa or Forest ever existed. I think I stopped in college. That was roughly in the time period that the Western discipline themed server was going (Stock Horse Co, maybe?). The forest server was probably brand new right about then too. I remember having accounts on all three. A lot of my "self care" hobbies died in college, like reading and art. I was too busy between the demands of social life and classes, then as a newlywed finishing college.

I studied animal science in college, so the fact that this game mimics real life heritability and genetics for color and performance is a big draw for me. I also enjoy that it's a pick your own goal type of game that you can play for literal years, and not "win" or run out of things to do. We moved to a new state last summer, and my job now leaves me with a lot of free time in the office looking for things to do. I found my way back here on a whim. I'm glad I did. I'm probably on here too much, but it gives me something to occupy what would otherwise be a long day at my desk. Plus it fills my organizing and planning itch. We won't talk about all of my spreadsheets...

Thanks Ammit! I'm having a good time.

  • Oh wow this is an awesome way to celebrate! I can’t wait to start collecting herd helpers I’ve missed as they came out for events. Oh boy the refill discount will be getting some use from me :)
  • I wanted to share the rough calendar of what is coming out this celebration season.

    May

-We have the herd helper reroll price drop and the big herd helper release posted about above.
-We also have the discounted gene price sale, based on your votes.
-Gift exchange entries open on the 15th!

    June

-Gift exchange assignments go out sometime on the 1st!
-New RGS genes available every day, game items on discount change very few hours.
-Special event herd helpers start appearing this month. Not every day has one but I tried to get every Thursday through Sunday. There is a huge number of brand new herd helpers this month, many with very fancy limited genes.
-We are going to TRY and get breed characteristics out in the second half of the month but this is a huge project (more info to come) and the next month is very disrupted. If they are not out in June they will be out asap in July.

    July

-Special event herd helpers continue for the rest of this month.

Something very important you need to know! We will be rebuilding our payment processing system later this year. That will include improving how subscriptions are managed, and a price increase on subscriptions. We have never increased the price of any item in the game before and premium subscriptions are about 15 years old. Because of inflation, we get about 30% less money per sub than we used too. Our game is also a lot more expensive to run now because of the features we have added, hiring people, server cost increases, and our living expense increases because of inflation. The subscription should cost around 11 dollars if we straight inflation adjusted which I feel is too big of a jump. In the fall this year we will be upping the price to $9.50. This will not impact already existing subscriptions. We will grandfather those in, so if you were contemplating a sub and want to get one before the price goes up later this year you should jump on that. You will also need a subscription to take full advantage of the new breed characteristics, though it will not be mandatory.

  • I've been so busy the last few weeks thanks to Mother's Day and moving house and wanting the unpacking to be done, that today is my first day off in nearly 2 weeks. So coming on here and seeing this update and the herd helpers list got me very excited!

I don't remember what year it was, but I remember wanting to explore other horse games that focused more on breeding than "collecting" and entering competitions for experience points. I was definitely overwhelmed at the sheer size of it all, and due to not really understanding genetics the way I do now, didn't last too long on here, to be honest.

Now armed with how genetics and heritability work now, this has become my top game to play, especially since the other horse game I've played since I was in high school has now gone in a direction (and play style) I don't particularly enjoy anymore.

Sorry for the long post, but as everyone else has mentioned, Ammit, from the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you, not only for the sacrifices and countless years of hard work put into this game, but also for the fact that, and what probably everyone here truly loves, you (and your dedicated team) are front and center for communication between players & admin. This is how a game should be run. This is why HAJ is HAJ. :x =D> ^:)^

  • Thank you so much Ammit!!
  • New celebration surprise just landed

I have added 5 new clubs to the breeder club list

    *Wild Bay
    *Brown
    Pangare+
    Fantasy: Onyx
    Fantasy: Rainbow Riot 2

    * I split the Bay club into Bay, Brown, and Wild Bay. If you had horses with brown in the color name they have been removed from the Bay Club. You will need to re-register your horses in the new Brown Club.
Any Bay horses who have the agouti promoter gene have also been removed from the Bay club. They can be entered in the new Wild Bay club.

Don't forget you can look at any club to see the entry rules, and there is an --ENTER ALL-- option on club registration so you can mass register horses for these new clubs.

Here is a photo from where we were staying in the village. (Hi Fifi) The village here was founded in the 1390s, though the oldest remaining houses are from the late 1800s.

  • Yup, that is Fifi.

Bulgaring is freaking old man. Basically the oldest place in Europe. Bulgaria is the oldest country in Europe (by founding date), and has the oldest continually occupied city in Europe (Plovdiv at 8000+ years). They have found ancient settlements there that are 9000 years old. Also, the Varna culture created the oldest gold hordes found anywhere in the entire world. Bulgaria is 1 to 2 thousand years older than Greece. Also, it is an exceptionally beautiful landscape.
