Riding barns
  • Hey, here’s a random topic: what is everyone’s riding situations? Do you own a horse, take riding lessons, rent, etc. I ride once a week at a lesson barn, usually doing hunter jumping, trail rides, or dressage.
  • I took lessons from 8-16 but have only trail ridden occasionally since those days. I just found out there’s a farm nearby that gentles rescued Mustangs, and they run yoga and forest bathing hikes with the horses, and that is on my must-do list for this spring!
  • We have six horses. All of them are either quarter horses or quarter horse draft crosses. We use them for trail riding, pack trips and camping in the backcountry, and hunting big game in the fall.

I have a three year old gelding with some good cow horse lines that will be starting his under saddle training this summer. I'm hoping to get him into some casual competitive events like sorting, or a trail class or something like that.

  • Wow both of those sound awesome! First of all, mustangs, yoga, and forests?! Yes please! And trail riding, camping, and hunting with horses sounds AMAZING.
  • They are a good time. I’m kind of weird and would rather do a pack trip in the mountains than go on a cruise or whatever else people do for vacation. There’s some cool country out there you only get to see if you ride in or walk in.

  • Yeah, same. Cruises freak me out lol
  • Yes I was so excited to discover this place in my area! They have rescued burros too, so cute! The yoga is held in a Sandy floored clear dome in the woods.
  • Awww, that sounds amazing! And the dome must be super cool to ride in.
  • I have one horse. She's an Appaloosa (see my profile picture) and also a Colorado Ranger. She will be 21 in May so I'm gonna buy her a beer :)) We were gonna make this year our last show season but unfortunately, unless someone wants to just give me $5000, we have had to cancel our season. :( Life and horses are just too expensive. So we're just trail riding and maybe doing a few small local shows that are like, $20 to enter.

  • I used to ride a lot more frequently, like 2-3 horses a day 5-6 days a week for a year. I started college in august and ended in December (only made it through one semester and ended up “quitting:(…) and haven’t been able to afford to get myself to and from the barn since. While I was there I was doing hunters, jumpers and eq. I do own a horse, a little Morgan mare but she had an accident in late august and I’ve been on and off her for a couple months now slowly bringing her back into work. She and I are working towards doing more work around the farm and some trail riding here and there!
  • I work and live at a barn. Currently, I have 2 two year olds, a three, a four, and a five under my care. We are looking to sell the five year old, but she’s turning into a really cute and fun little ranch horse and I almost want to just buy her myself, haha. I’ve got a show lease on the four year old, and he’s really coming along nicely. My hope would be to make it to at least the Color Breed Congress on him this year, possibly the Pinto World show as well. His second time off the ranch was just a couple weeks ago for a small-ish show in Tulsa, where we absolutely bombed our first class, but came out with a 4th and 5th out of 8 in the ranch rail afterwards. He’s really come a long way!
