Is Splash 2 lethal?
-
It's not on the lethality chart, but I thought I read somewhere that it is lethal if homozygous.Mesa Server: SmoothRiverFarm # 258

@SummerMonarch has been playing with white lethality and might know.

I don’t know if sw2/sw2 is lethal.
All the kit genes have the potential to be lethal but, for most, the chance is really small. As far as I understand it, and I could be wrong, is that we can think of it as a math problem. Let us pretend that a horse dies of lethal white if it reaches x (100) number of kit death points. So then think that each kit has a chance of having a number from 1-50– W1 and w10 being the highest and things like R being very low. Then assume that white factor is a multiplier. So a w1/w1 starts at 100 points, which could be death, so you can’t have much of a multiplier (white factor.)
This is just the way to think about it but the numbers are wrong. All my w1/w1 have no white factor. My w3/w1 have minimal to light. White factor is the true enemy in lethal white.
The kit genes cause death differently than O. The kit genes die during pregnancy while O is when they live but the intestines haven’t formed so they die badly. O/O is always fatal, regardless of white factor.
I don’t know anything about the splash genes— @thebluemoors ?

Yep, hom SW2 is lethal. I found that out the hard way when I accidentally killed half a pasture of foals because I was not aware that it was. :P

Splash 2 is caused by a different gene from normal splash (PAX3). It is more aggressive and results in bigger white markings. It is homozygous lethal and lethal with SW3.
Copied from the Splash 2 description on the Gene Modification page. That's probably where you saw it SmoothRiverFarm. :)HAJ1 White Valley #60847 HAJ3 minimum #175

Wait, there are lethal colours? I never understood the o/o and letter representations of genes. Can anyone tell me which colour combos I should look out for? Because I've been messing around with a lot of white markings / white markings colours.❥ Flips / Stella! She/Her.

That chart is the KIT lethality chart only. It does not have any other genes.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Here is the chart in question: https://mesa.huntandjump.com/faq.php#870
Anything that appears in the kit mutation slot (kit:w1/w20) can potentially cause a foal to not survive to a live birth. Many kit foals can survive, but a combo of powerful white genes and a large white factor can cause miscarriages.
Completely separately - no really, you’ve got to separate these in your head - there is O/O which results in a foal who lives after birth but dies shortly after because it has a messed up GI track. All O/O foals die.
Splash? IDK. The game has told me it is impossible, but it also says w1/w2 is impossible and I have a bunch of them. I haven’t played around with splash 2 & 3 yet so I don’t know if it is a miscarriage (flexibility) or a live birth death (none.)
I also want to state that these are things which are horrible irl. I only kill a lot of kit foals because I like math and probability. We test to make sure we don’t do this with non pixel ponies. -
Cool, thanks, guys!
