Stallion help!
  • Barn ID: 29509

Which of these stallions do you believe is the best? All passed all the tests. Should I wait longer before choosing a new foundation stallion? Please help! Thank you!
  • Stallions are ranked in quality according to papers they start at C and will improve with breeding. The ranking goes C, B, A, Star. Therefore your B stallions are of better breeding quality than your C stallions.

This one is my personal fav of the lot, but that is a low pt! (Remember breeding ability is not linked to PT.)

  • @SummerMonarch If I breed him to a 11-10 pt stallion what happens there? Just random? Or is it somewhat influenced?
  • Think of breeding ability as a range. Each c/b/a/star has a different max and min set of characteristics. PT is one of those characteristics but the exact number for PT is not generated by the pt of the parents of the foal but rather the breeding ability of the parents.

This is a random example with numbers that are not accurate.

Let us say that a b level stallion can make a foal with a pt between 7 and 10. The pt of the stallion doesn’t matter. You don’t need to know it. The quality of the stallions breeding (in this case in the b range) sets the potential range of the pt of the foal.

  • Gosh I wish that this was all written down somewhere. I can’t even find any info on the ranking of papers.
  • @Vajoy Have you checked out the wiki? It is still being worked on, but there is tons of great info on there, including breeding papers info. https://wiki.huntandjump.com/
“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.” -Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Chapter 6
  • When I first started playing I only used BA, if they passed they were good. Then upgraded and used sba and now comp testing is involved and getting benchmark horses.

I would say do what works for you. To answer your question of waiting for a new foundation stud is; only if you want to.

I want to add, the mares you breed to play a part too.
  • @LookingGood what is comp testing?
  • Comparison testing
  • Further down the page where the other test are there is a box for comparison testing. It is expensive. That's why I never used it in the beginning. You are able to comp test any horse you own to any other same gender horse you own. By doing that you can take your studs from here and see which is superior. However I'd go off paper and pt and call it good, but that's me.
  • Ah, just hadn’t heard that abbreviation. I do it but only because I have the money to do it and since I’m premium it’s only 4k instead of 8k
