Introducing Stallion Futurities!
-
This June for the seventeenth anniversary of HAJ we will be hosting our very first stallion futurity.
HAJ tends towards walled gardens. Often people don't do a lot of sharing of lines. There is nothing wrong with this inherently but it is always nice to see flashy stallion ads and the culture that immerges around particularly well-promoted stallions. To help encourage members to promote and share their stallions I have created this brand-new LB category.
Here are the rules:
To qualify for the futurity a stallion must have at least 10 offspring bred and owned by players other than the owner of the stallion.
Those offspring must be the same era as the stallion, and must be five years of age.
The total number of points won by the top ten offspring of each qualified stallion count towards his futurity standings.
The number shown next to the stallion name is the sum of the points earned this year by his top 10 offspring.
Stallions do not need to be entered in era clubs to qualify for the futurity.
Note that stallions and their offspring do not need to be in the era clubs which means futurities are open to fantasy horses.
Because of how the futurities work you promote your stallion several months in advance. In this first case, you would promote in February in hopes that the five-year-olds in June rack up the most points for your era.
Prizes for futurities are significant:
Champion: 10 GMTs to the stallion owner, and 1 GMT to the owner of each of his 10 best foals.
Reserve Champion: 8 GMTs, and 1 GMT to the owner of each of his 10 best foals
Third Place: 8 GMTs
Fourth Place: 6 GMTs
Fifth Place: 4 GMTs
Ribbons to 10th place.
The first set of futurity awards go out June 28th. Then every month thereafter.
_____
An important note. If you know you are the kind of person who is going to want to obsessively quality-check the descendants of your stud, and get flustered if the lines are not to your standards please do not stand your stallions to the public. It just stresses out everyone involved. It is not fair to yourself, the people who use your stud, or me who has to deal with the fallout. Know yourself and know what you are signing up for if you stand your stallion. Stallion rules are not permitted for any stud listed on the public boards or the forums. Lower-quality offspring of a stallion does not negatively impact him on the leaderboard, or for the futurities. Just be chill with it, or know that if you can't you will be happier keeping to your own garden.
A lowest PT LB category is also coming soon if you wish to start up a low PT project in earnest now that is no longer financially punished.Reminder: please do not post stallion ads before the 28th

I also want to point out that the competition is "points at 5 years old". It is not uncommon for high PT horses not to have a lot of points by this age. Don't be discouraged from promoting your stallions that are not top producers on the LB. There is frankly no way to know which stallion's offspring will land at lucky levels and nab the most points. I am guessing these will prove to be rewarding for stallions at all ability levels.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I love this idea and cannot wait to get started!
-
ok i think i am understanding this better.
because i was worried that i would not get 10 people that would want to breed to my stud.
so i went and checked the futurity leaderboard top stud in his list of foals there is only 2 outside people that have bred to him now between the foals of these 2 other breeders foal count is over 10.
so you just need 10 foals from someone else not 10 different people. that have bred to your stud.
please correct me if i am wrong.
thank you -
10 foals owned by anyone else. Not 10 different accounts.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Do the foals that are sold need to be intact or can they be spayed/gelded?
-
Selling and being intact or not have no impact on the futurity. Foals do not need to be sold at all.Need to contact me? Read this first.

@LaurierArabians - the foals have to be bred by the outside barn, not simply owned by them.HJ1: Chateau Albere-239543

(Which means either putting up your stallions for stud or selling straws.)Thanked by 1magesvalley

I see, i was under the impression you could sell your homebred foals and that they would count towards your stud’s count.

Question about eras - This one is era 2, sire is era 3 (foundation), dam is era 2 (foundation). How can I ensure the eras match?
1870382 -
The era of a foal will match the LOWEST era out of the parents. So some examples:
Era 3 x Era 3 = Era 3 foal
Era 3 x Era 4 = Era 3 foal
Era 3 x Era 1 = Era 1 foal
So to get foals who are the same era as the stallion you need the mares that breed to him to be the same era # as him OR a higher era # than him.Ramshorn Ranch

Is it possible to get an overall server futerific stallion listing? I get era 0 will dominate but I think it would be neat.
-
SummerMonarch I would like to have that but I have to build an entirely new lb to show that. Hopefully, it will come in time. Era 0 won't dominate. They have their own subsection.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Ok, walking myself through how this works: do I need to wait until next year (February) to breed? Does my stallion have to be 5 at time of breeding, or do the foals have to be 5 at time of counting points? I am about to breed all of my era 4 ponies (yes I procrastinate B-) ) and have straws from other players, but I'll save them for next season if I'm supposed to (and not panic to breed EVERY. SINGLE. MARE)
-
Yes, you must wait until next season as the first set of awards does not go out until June. The offspring has to be 5 exactly.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Ok. I can still breed my horses to my own stud, right? Keeping in mind that the foals I produce today won't be eligible for the Futurity?
-
The futurities do not stop you from normal breeding.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Any foals that you breed to your own stud will not qualify for the futurity. The only foals that will qualify for the futurity are foals that match the stud's era, that another player breeds, AND another player keeps until the age of 5. Then during that month that they are 5 years old the top 10 foals points are accumulated to give the stallion a score.
So foals born in February that meet those criteria will count towards prizes in June.
Foals born in March that meet those criteria will count towards prizes in July.
Foals born in April that meet those criteria will count towards prizes in August.

Is the first one awarded in June, for all eras?
The breeder NEEDS to keep them, or they just need to be alive and well? -
All eras will award in June and every month thereafter.
How I am reading the rules is that someone other than you needs to own them at the age of 5. Not necessarily the breeder.
offspring bred and owned by players other than the owner of the stallion.
However, I think most players are asking on the straw swaps that the breeder retains the foals until age 5 to be sure the foals will count towards qualification.Ramshorn Ranch

If you would see a horse from your lines in the sales and buy it, it wouldn't count?
-
That’s right. The bred by needs to be a different name than the current owner.
-
Just to be nit-picking:
I sell you straws, you breed your mare, decided to sell the foal and I pick it up at auction. It's sired by my horse, you are listed as breeder, but I'm the owner at 5. Is that one out of the running? -
I would think so. It it not owned by an player other than the owner of the stallion. Now if I bought it - so Summer Monarch was the breeder, you were the stallion owner, and I was the owner of the offspring - it would still qualify.HJ1: Chateau Albere-239543

A question — when I run the stallion futuries it shows 26 era 2 stallions have qualified but then it only lists 18. What’s up with those other eight horses?
https://mesa.huntandjump.com/clubs.php?sf=y -
Obviously only Ammit would know for sure, but I wonder if those other stallions have 0 accumulated points for their qualified foals so far this month. I noticed that the absolute lowest point total for the stallions that are shown is a 1 pointer.

The first number is only semi-accurate. It filters again with a more complex filter.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Does a stallion need to still be a stallion at the time the foals are 5?
-
Yes. Since this is really about promoting specific stallions I only want active stallions to be on the list.Need to contact me? Read this first.

So, if the Stallion gets archived before June it will no longer qualify?“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.” -Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Chapter 6 -
Yes, I believe so- the goal is to promote living stallions.
