not brown horse? - solved
-
yup it was the one sooty gene I was missing, figure it out thanks!

In the future, it helps to leave the original post up. If you have a question, others probably have it too. I actually came to check this post out because I don’t currently breed for brown, but I think they’re really pretty so thought I might learn something about the genetics that make up brown. Glad you found your answer!

Basically I had gene modded a horse to have Ee tt but they weren't showing as brown despite one of my brown horses having those genes. So I looked and saw the Brown was a double sooty, added 1 sotty gene and it shifted them from bay to brown... so it looks like for the name to change to brown it's linked to at least het. sooty and not just having the bay base with the tt on the agouti part.

Yeah, the name shift with brown horses is pretty confusing. They can have the brown gene, but unless they've got the sooty the game won't CALL them brown. (Maybe because they are visually indistinguishable? I'm not sure.) You can still use them to breed brown babies, though!
