Build a show herd
-
Ok, I've been playing for less than 2 months, and have done pretty well; I have about 550 stalls and 80 pasture spots. But only around 100 altered horses. I have almost 1 mil hbs, because I created like crazy last month and sold lots of candy horses. So my question is what to do next? Do I spay my pointed creates, or create and spay new horses? Every horse I have made for breeding is XPerf or XPro, nothing low quality. So it hurts to alter them I guess haha

I generally aim for about 25% breeders and 75% showers. My sweet spot for high earners has been a PT between 10-11 (usually my second gens) or above 12.5. Here is a link showing my horses by earnings this year for reference.

I would definitely start by whittling down your breeding herd. Keeping in mind that ExPro's don't always make the best show horses because they are exceptional producers, not exceptional performers and their PT scores are variable. I personally don't like to spay rank specials or red papered foundies that have unique genes because they can potentially sell for more as breeders than what they would make you showing. Maybe try listing some for sale instead of spaying if they are unpointed.
Once you're in a good place with your existing horses you can look to grow. Pasture breeding lined horses is cheaper than creating foundations and usually leads to higher earners, so that's my recommendation for growing a show herd. ExPerfs would be my suggestion if you do want to create - that or buying other new players pointed foundies! -
Thanks for the input! I'll go through the herd again, and try to focus my breeding stock, and spay whatever doesn't work. I've been getting some good pointed horses in the auction, too!
