How to Profit - Help Me Out
-
So I have hit a stall in this game and it is starting to dull my interest, I am wondering if I can seek some advice from other players to help me correct my errs.
So, originally, I was creating exceptional breeders and showers as pointed foundations, keeping select few for breeding and selling the other. I then used these profits to buy a basic upgrade, and set my sights on my first 210 stall barn (abt 70IVs or 875k as a quick refresher). However, I have noticed the market for pointed foundations has plummeted considerably, I am guessing from the fun of breeding season. It can take several days to sell even one pointed create, and I am lucky to make even a 500hb profit.
I guess my question is, what is another way to make money to save up for a large expense like this when my original sell point no longer has a market, and there are no 9/10+ YO foundations to collect and sell?
Thank you!

It's really hard at the moment - people have very little money as we are all just starting up! I think pointed creates will sell soon. :)
Personally, I bought loads of pointed creates (as I reached my max ages ago!) last week as I had just saved up enough money for a new barn but now I am broke again but I will try to save up again and repeat.Dinascar on Forest server
Breeding Draft Pearl (hopefully) -
I just bought enough for a basic year upgrade by creating mares, breeding them in pasture, and then auctioning them after breeding advice for everyone and color testing for all of the mares plus any foals that look interesting. I also look through all of the mares for any interesting formerly hidden genes and label them so prospective bidders can find them easily. Sometimes I keep those mares out and put them up on the public sales board for 2750, a very tiny profit.
The benefits to this are that I also got a number of lotteries and a lot of horses that I'll use for my own show barns and lines, since I created from handpicked HHs and I started when my creates would have points.
The downsides are that it takes up a lot of barn space to do anything really big and you need some overhead. Also, it takes a lot of time, especially because I look everyone over.
If I had a Premium upgrade and didn't care what genes went through my barns, I could do this process in as much time as it takes to create the mares and click a few mass effect buttons.
If every horse sells for 2500, you'll make 1000 per horse on average if you only do free testing. The money is held hostage until the auction runs and it fills your barn at the same time.
This also only works because they're pixel ponies and don't feel pain. Unless Ammit says they do.~*RoseFlute on HJ2*~#153#

I do something very similar to @RoseViola. However, I color test and list all ExPro/ExPerf publically for one day at $5000 for anyone to grab (which is what I would make from selling the mare and foal in auction). After that I bred them all and put both the mare and foal in the auction. I just like giving people a chance to buy a nice red papered unbred mare if it fits their herd for the season!

To be honest, I read through this post, saw that you had pointed horses for sale, and then went and picked up a few because I needed them anyways. I don't know if you've tried advertizing your sale stock on the forum, but that might help to get them sold faster as people might check the forum more often than they check the sales list.ID #242

I like everyone’s comments thus far. Me personally, I’ve never been able to make sustainable money quickly. On Forest, sometimes I’ll sell a RS or two for a quick burst of cash, but other than that it’s a long haul goal. Buy barn space and fill it with quality show horses. Yep it takes a while to get there, but those horses are eventually your big breadwinners that keep your stable operating! Sometimes I don’t sign in for a few days or even weeks but then I’ll play obsessively again lol.
I think the breeding/auction route can make you some cash, as the others said, if you have the room to hold everyone until auction.
Good luck and I hope you don’t lose heart! -
I've also done create and auction and ultimately I feel like it's just a way if buying more barn space to grow the show herd while you wait for the show horses to start making money. Nobody on this server is really well enough established for too many other strategies to pay off. No 10 year old horses, no random benefactors depositing horsebucks to your account (that happened to be yesterday on Bluegrass and made my day).

Right now I have a Premi Account, and I have been creating pointed foundations. I still have points left on creates as I have been recycling my creates I guess. I was able to get my hands on a couple of the show HH and I created them and gelded spayed them immediately as I wasn't going to breed them. What I haven't done and I'm kinda wondering if I should, is kick all my mares outa the pasture so they can show as I am now seriously stuck for barn space and need a new show barn immediately. (yah the boost is still floating around as an option ... which I am seriously considering) I was very picky about what HH I used and actually had to let a Expro Appy HH go because I didn't have the hbs to create. Now with Snowflake showing I am now calculating the cost of gene testing so I don't let anymore snowflakes creates accidentally leave.
My show bonus is at 2,000 per day, but that will drop after auction as I am sending a whole bunch to the auction. Plus side is that I'll get a little burst of money and I'll be able to hand pick more mares. Now I could hold on to them and put them up for public, which maybe I should as I'm not sure how many players are actually surfen the auctions, but again its the matter of get them out to make the room for something I might keep.
As much as the create/breed and auction route works for many, its not a route that I would take as it fills the auction with a large amount of not tested 2nd gens and bred foundations that one has to slog through to find what your looking for. Many of the creates are not gene tested so you really don't want to take a chance on them and if someone buys one of the foals then you can't GMT them. I sort of gave up pulling things outa the auction because of the huge influx of the create breed auction, I did it for my achievement and haven't really gone through it since.
But as Fox said its the long haul goal ... Trying to get this show herd built up and steadily bringing in the hbs, because that is where the long haul hbs come from. Little bursts are great, but for a steady increase you need those showers ... showing, especially on a brand new server where even the Vets are starting out brand new.Corvus Bluegrass Server 215460

Interesting to see/hear how everyone is doing, starting from scratch. Did any of you do the contest that Ammit ran a year (or so, I'm horrible with timelines!) ago? How is this time different since there are no restrictions? The server is only, what? Not even 3 months old, and I'm noticing a lot of similar types of issues on the forum...running out of money, or stalls, etc. Which tells me its not just new players who have 'overspending' issues! Senior players from the other servers, what are you doing differently (besides color and type)?

It's been a little while since joining the Hajiinc family, but from what I recall, I was gifted a lot of barns and pastures by the grace of another player. I remember starting by creating foals instead of fully-grown mares, so I didn't breed my first foals for a while. I created foals because I thought they would use those extra months getting points for my show bonus, but that is not a good way to start out. :P I also remember creating HHs and selling to people for a small profit, but I'm not doing that this time.
On Mesa I bought myself the starter pack, went through the tutorials, and bought one 120 stall barn. I also took advantage of the gene sale and made a couple public studs with fairly shiny genes in the hopes they would make some money. I've used them a few times to run pastures of auction foals, which raises their value a little. This time I did start by creating breeding-age mares and studs. I also did a lot of selling pointed creates, with a lot of attention to who I kept and who I sold.
Both times I used the create-breed-auction cycle to raise money for Upgrades, barns, GMTs, whatever else I might want. Lotteries are a big bonus to that method and I've already gotten TWO 250k lotteries. :D One funded the Upgrade and one has me mostly on my way to a new barn.
A huge difference for these two startups is the time spent. The first time I (of COURSE!) spent a lot of time pouring over the gene manuals and hand-selecting the shows my horses went into, and learning phenotypes. I don't remember if I took to pasture breeding as quickly, even with my own intentional foals. It was slightly confusing to me that there wasn't a lot of busywork and they only show twice a week?? So I felt like there was a lot of time to putz around. I remember going through show results a lot, too. I'd also go through the auction more.
This time I'm a lot more intentional with the colors I pick, because of course I didn't know what I liked back then. My first mare and stud were a pale red dun and a black with white 1, for pete's sake. Now I specifically chose Silver Blacks and a few browns snuck in. And always, always, sooty.
I didn't participate in the contest for Nexus, but I think overall I hit the ground running this time. The tutorial and pointed creates helped, and having the experience to strategize a bit more and already knowing what I like helps a lot, too.~*RoseFlute on HJ2*~#153#

I joined HaJ right when that contest was being run on Forest server! I remember perusing those threads to be really helpful to me. Can anyone go back and find that thread and maybe post it on this server so that we can all go back through?
I agree that part of the challenge is that I already know the mechanics of the game. Like RoseViola said, when I started I spent SO much time reading through the rules and old forum posts. Also, I already know what I want to breed for and what I like so that puts extra pressure on breeding because I have A PLAN and I just want to execute it!
The biggest change that came about as a result of that contest was pointed creates (I think I passed 20k points right before that was released so I couldn't take advantage of that). So instead of stalking the forum for herd helpers and creating horses until I luck out with something with decent points, I had to stalk the auctions for older show horses with points. This meant that I really had to be on the game at 8pm EST every auction day if I wanted to win any of my bids. I appreciate the pointed creates update for that reason - it makes it easier for new players, especially those from overseas time zones (thanks, Ammit!)
A few older players helped me out with a barn and some older show horses (Dinascar, Cheers, HUSG, Bandit, Confluence, you all were so generous!) But again, that is part of the challenge of this new server is that there aren't any older accounts with tons of show ponies and cash to gift so we have to figure it out together as new accounts! But I think the beauty of that is that finding creative ways to get over that challenge will bring the community together in new ways!
When I started this account, I bought the welcome pack. I've won the million hbs lottery once and the 250k lottery twice and used that money to buy two 60 stall barns and some GMTs. I've been doing the create-breed-auction thing and kept anyone with 350+ points (mostly 4yo mares from color herd helpers). I hit my 20k point cap last week so now I'm using the money I get back from the auction to buy show horses. My goal is to fill up one 60 stall barn with horses with 250+ points by the end of the month. I figure if I put my money from the auction into buying horses from others then that can be my way of helping people out rather than doing big grandiose giveaways.ID #242

I found the Final Standings post of the Reach for the Stars Giveaway. The contest ended April 2018 and this is why Ammit made it so we couldn't overstuff Primary barns by mass emptying pastures.

That was an interesting test since I wasn't around at that time.
Another thought is if you have $1.99 get your discounted new player basic upgrade. $12,500 hbs per week is a nice infusion if you're struggling! -
I have accounts on this server and on the forest server (only active on this server). Both times I bought the discounted starter pack and found that it was a good enough boost that I could make enough hbs to cover the yearly basic upgrade.ID: #138

Well talk about insane luck. I read the linked posts about the contest and decided I wanted to make an account on bluegrass and see how much hbs I could make in like a month doing nothing but selling pointed creates since that whole thing was a couple of years ago. I won the 250,000 lottery on my 2nd horse so I guess my testing is done :D That's a pretty nice return on my 5000 hb investment.
Even without my lottery win I have a feeling it's much easier to make hbs than it was before pointed creates became a thing. -
I do remember my start up ... but I didn't participate in the contest as I only had Bluegrass account, never really interested in Forest and started the on the Mesa because it was brand spanking new.
On my Bluegrass account I had friends from a previous game already here (Vision and Compass Point) who in turn hooked me up with other already well established players and they helped me a huge amount. I do remember spending my real life money on a infusion and barns when they were on sale, and was able to get a good start to my show herd. And I think that might be one of the big differences between this start up and my original start up on Bluegrass. The older players are new players too. They are working to build their show herds up as much as rest of us. Instead of new barns ... which I should have done ... I got herd sires first.
I've gotten the lotto once but it was the 10,000hbs lotto, still nice. I've been really picky about the creates, selling those that I don't want. I've not yet hit my cap on the pointed creates, so until I do all my auction horses have points. I did take some mares out of the pasture and put them into showing, condensed my gen 2's into one barn and will now start saving up for the big 210 show barn. (I have the 15 from the welcome and bought a 30 on sale)
I'm not quite at no hbs (I've got about a 750 lol) right now, but at roll over it will jump up and I have two days before all the auction horses go through (and by auction horses these are HH pointed ... not the create/breed/auction it all), then weekly pay. What I need to do is stop buying ponies ... that's where last weeks save up went too. Ammit put the snowflake up as testable and I blew my savings on buying two mares with snowflake and gene testing to see if I had any ... Now I am going to stop buying (going to stop looking) and actually save like I was suppose too. Get the IVs for that barn and then rinse and repeat. My issue is I get panicky because my Herd sires will age out and I'm afraid I won't get them used as much as I would like. I really dislike AI (I use it, but its not my preferred way of breeding) because it is expensive and hard to get the foals through Doris. lol But with that said I might start pulling straws too from my herd sires, for later. But I NEED to stop looking and shopping ... need need need ... (I'll cave I know I will but for now I'm gonna pretend I'll follow it)
What I have noticed that is really different from this start up to my first start up ... I know exactly what I want and what I'm breeding for. My first start up was pretty all over the place except I wanted Bring Back the Sun foundations ... I've got Expro herd mares and Rank Specials ... no just creates. I did put my first two guys up for public breeding, and now have them up for straws ... And I have no fantasy genes or closed genes.
Now it might be just me, but I have noticed that there is a rather large fantasy aspect to this server than on Bluegrass. Now that might be because all the genes are here and on the Bluegrass people got them as they were introduced. Again that might be just me, but I remember seeing a lot of fantasy herd sires over the others as the first days of roll out were upon us. It might be kinda interesting to see the ratio between the servers on the fantasy genes ... are they more prevalent here and would this affect your buying and selling of second gens later on in the game as we get into breeding 2nd gens. What about bootstrapping? All of these will be really interesting to watch as the server gets really going. This is the reason I joined the mesa server ... everybody starting fresh and watching how people build things up. I got the premi because I like the shiny that comes with it ... and I'm sorta spoiled as I've had premi account for a while ...Corvus Bluegrass Server 215460

People just don't have a lot of money to spend yet. I have a 5k a day bonus without too much effort. I did buy a hb infusion at the start, used it to create a heap of mares. Kept the higher pointers, bred them, and sold them and the foals a few times to get the money up. Then bought a heap of pointed horses off the sales boards as I can no longer create with points. I haven't spent a lot of time doing it, I need more barn space now, so I could do the create and sell thing a few more times I guess, but will probably end up buying a barn and use money for gmt's lol! But just sitting back for now, occasionally buying pointed horses
-
I spent $1.99 on the welcome pack (a really good deal) and have managed to get myself up to 4.4k daily bonus and bought a couple of 90 stall barns full of pointed ponies - mares and show ponies. I have bred a lot but not kept many of my foals yet. I have won the 10k lottery 3 or 4 times which was nice.
I love the challenge of starting from scratch.Dinascar on Forest server
Breeding Draft Pearl (hopefully) -
I'm at about 3k a day payout. I know I should be getting rid of more foals - I have a bit of a hoarding problem lol. At this point I just take my daily payout each day and buy the highest pointed horse I can. It's building up slowly. I think I'm going to go through and pick my 2 favorite colts and 5 favorite fillies from each stud each season, then auction the rest. Hopefully that will help some.
