Limited Fantasy Genetics and licenses

    I’m trying to figure out how this works, and after a long time spent trying to read forums I’m just going to ask my questions!

    1) Limited Fantasy Genes - since I am a free account player who can’t afford to spend real money, does this mean I will never get horses with limited fantasy genes? Or can I breed from a public offering to introduce into my herd?

    2) Gene Licenses - can someone explain these more? Do I just need to buy a horse (using hbs) with one of these genes, or is there another way? Do I only need one license in the purple font to unlock all others, or is the gene specific?

    The licenses are specific to the genes. Purple genes require licenses to breed and to buy breedable horses.

    Orange genes do not require licenses. You can breed them into your lines or buy breedable horses.

    If it has a glow then it is a fantasy gene.

    You can get limited genes by giving another player hbs to buy the gene for you. I think the current rate is 100k hbs per dollar.

    The fantasy genes in orange are open genes and you can breed to a horse that has them or buy a horse that has them in the auction. Like Tarma said for the purple genes if there's one you really want you can pay someone HBs to buy it for you. Also keep in mind that you can get a basic upgrade with HBs even on a free account which gives you some nice perks as well.

    Only the glow means fantasy gene. Orange just means sales restricted but not licensed. :)

    @AshfordAcres, if you would like some open fantasy gene ponies, I can set it up for you to breed to some of my boys. I’ve got Ice 1, 5 and 8, as well as chocolates, axiom and DFP1. All are open genes. Many of them also have satin, Pearl, Tiger eye and/or Sooty+

    I'm still learning how to capitalize on making certain genes appear. Any special tips on breeding to keep the Ice and Axiom fantasy genes appearing?
