Recreating American Cream drafts
-
I would like to create a small herd of ACDs, but according to wiki the colour comes from the champagne gene and not from the cream gene. Gold champagne is the nearest colour here, but doesn't look right. What am I Missing? Flaxen? Silver?
What genes should I be breeding for?Thanked by 1FolliesFantasies -
What an interesting project. I wasn't familiar with this breed, so I read the Wiki pages about this really pretty horse.
In looking through the search horses, it seems as though the game does not lighten the manes and tails enough. I would add flaxen to the genes. I would not add Silver to the mix, because it would darken their legs.
Also is there a gene, that would lighten their eyes? Splash would, but it would also add too much white. Would the tiger eye be appropriate?
I look forward to watching what you do with this new project.Forest Server - Chapel Hill Farm. ID# 54714 (Basic account)

I hadn't heard of this breed before either! I think @ChapelHillFarm gave some really good advice. I mainly play on Mesa, but I made a Bluegrass account to just play around with and on that server I think I'm trying to do something similar. I'm trying to breed light colored cobs with light/pinkish manes and tails.
These are two horses I have over there that I think look similar color-wise to the real life ACDs.

I think having champagne, cream, flaxen, and maybe a bit of pangare might give the effect you're looking for. Also, like @ChapelHillFarm said, Tiger Eye could help lighten the eyes.ID:3258

I think Champagne does some eye lightening, too........

Champagne and pearl gives the eyes a greenish cast, whereas homozygous cream and sometimes splash or frame will turn eyes blue. TE1 and TE2 will lighten the eyes. I find that for eyes that are already diluted, even one copy of TE1/2 will lighten the eyes a little bit.ID #242

Thanks everyone, I somehow totally missed all the replies.

@ChapelHillFarm Silver doesn't darken the legs, I think what you're seeing is the silver diluting the dark points of bay. Here's a search of silver black horses with no A, +, or t alleles on the Agouti locus, and no dun.

I thought really hard about doing American Creams myself, but am happy to see that someone is. :)Layia Glandulosa #10908 - The Finest Desert Wildflowers (she/her)

The lighter ones have the cream gene as well. Some people say cream is not in the breed but this is provably untrue as several have been DNA tested to have champ and cream.
Made an example for you :)

I was under the impression that most American Creams are red based homozygous champagnes and some of the really pale ones have a cream gene.
