Talk to me!

I would like to see more 'action' here on the forum. So I'm going to periodically toss out some suggestions!
Todays topic: How 'crafty' are you? Do you make anything that you give as gifts, or sell? (if you sell them, tell me where! I can always use good ideas for gifts!)

I've gone through a lot of mediums, like one year I got into duct tape crafting and made black and white glow in the dark ornaments for everybody in my family, mostly floral. The year after that I made a wire and duct tape Toothless for my little brother. I'm still really proud of it, the jaw articulated and the blue glow-in-the-dark back stripe worked out perfectly...
I also used to crochet a fair bit, but I never really made anything practical.
I've painted a few clam shells for presents to special people, too. Ocean scenes, grey Atlantic type. Solitary sailboats.
I took a few pottery classes in college so I could upcycle all those materials into Christmas presents and save some money. Most of that is in storage in my mom's house now. I have lots of mugs and bowls somewhere, plus random weird stuff like lidded containers that have sculptural elements.
I also paint because that's my degree but I'm not selling anywhere right now because that would involve setting up a business and I don't have a proper address to list yet. I think since we're renting I can't register this address with the city. Anyway.
I don't remember any other mediums, other than I tried woodcarving a few times, which only amounted to a wizard wand after my Pottermore results, but I'm sure I've tried things.~*RoseFlute on HJ2*~#153#

I have been knitting on and off since I was about 5 years old and these days I like to design things for myself rather than simply follow a pattern. I also learned to crochet when I was older, but I don't really class myself as an expert in that craft. I did crochet a baby shawl when I was pregnant with my first daughter and she came home from the hospital in it, as did my second daughter. I kept it and each of my two granddaughters came home from hospital in it, so it is becoming something of a family heirloom!
With my knitting I have made many things over the years for myself or others. About 7 or 8 years ago I became a 'professional' hand knitter for a lady who designed children's jumpers and cardigans. The money was peanuts but I enjoyed doing it and only gave it up when I managed to get a 'proper' job (ie one that paid minimum wage and had regular hours).
A couple of years ago I started knitting scarves that I designed myself with a view to selling them. But I found out that I would have to set up as a business and now that I am retired I don't want the hassle. I did sell two of them to people who saw them, but the rest are waiting for a good home. They are all 'picture' type scarves, some for children and some for adults. My favourite one for an adult reads along the length of the scarf 'My other scarf is longer'.
At present I am crocheting a granny square blanket inspired by Amy's blanket on 'The Big Bang Theory' and next I will be knitting a Christmas stocking for my granddaughter who will be nearly 3 this Christmas.

I have never heard of duct tape crafting! I've seen the prom dresses some people make, but not the kind of stuff you are talking about. Would you be willing to share some pictures?
Minimum, I would love to see pics of the scarves! The "my other scarf is longer" would be a hilarious gift for a Doctor Who fan! (asking for a friend...yeah...for a friend)

@RoseViola I remember how big duct tape crafts were when I was in middle school! Although people were mostly just making wallets. I can imagine making Toothless is quite the feat!
@minimum Knitting baby clothes for your children and it being passed along to your grandchildren is so incredibly sweet. I love that your hobby has become a piece of your family.
I love to create things although I have no talent (which is okay, because not everything needs to be the best) and I get distracted from it easily. I have so many crafts I've picked up and put right back down. I have a cabinet in the garage I started painting to flip, then got distracted. I have candle-making ingredients that have been sitting in the closet after I made only two candles. There's also pieces to make earrings that have been sitting on my night stand for the last 3 months. I think I might have a bit of a problem X)
I get creative burst and then it leaves. I just tell myself as long as I felt like I got to explore my creative side (if only very briefly) then it was worth it :)ID:3258

Can confirm, @rachrobe does like to half-start projects and leave them on the counter for weeks. :))
I’m not very crafty at all. Any artsy things I like to do are digital- like photo editing. But I have many crafty friends and I absolutely love getting handmade things from them!
Also thank you for trying to get the forum more active- it doesn’t get a lot of love, which makes me sad. There’s so many cool people on this server!Thanked by 1rachrobe -
I craft...multiple projects. =)) I quilt...still in progress. I use seed beads to make ornaments and little odds-n-ends boxes. I cross-stitch. I make Christmas ornaments from Styrofoam balls, ribbon, beads, sequins, and straight pins. Uh, I have lots of crafts, according to my husband too many. I don't have a designated room because I live in a small trailer, so most of the living room is my crafting supplies. :))

I for a bit was really into making what I called name art. I would take someone's name, some strangers and others close to me and personalize it to that specific person. I've made some beautiful pieces that I'm really proud of and love. Unfortunately a lot of the ones I did for strangers I probably wont ever be able to give them the actual drawing. Just a picture of it. I've stopped though, the inspiration and creativity not there at the time.

Sorry Confluence Ranch, I don't have a way to take pictures and put them on here (technology is not my thing!). Also, trying to send parcels abroad (I live in the UK) is not just costly, but because you have to declare on the customs form what is inside the parcel, it leaves it open to theft. :(HAJ1 White Valley #60847 HAJ3 minimum #175

I'm very crafty. Love all types. I make craft gifts, always try to personalize them. Everything from wood projects (signs, cutting boards, etc), wrapping (jewelry, etc), keychains (all kinds) and more. I also have done personal items with specific topics/themes.
-
I can crochet very simple things (pot holders, afghans) until my hands and wrists give out. I only know chain, single, and double stitches.
I also made ribbon type bookmarks for my daughter for Christmas. I used faux leather cord and music themed charms/pendants with beads -
I crochet quite a bit. Mostly baby blankets and cell phone pouches that tie around your waist for when clothes don't come with pockets. I do a lot of sketching and writing, and recently I added oil paints. So far I've done 3 canvases and I think I might like it, I've done acrylic and watercolor for years. I also love coloring books.
I feel like I need to add clay or a lathe to my life, but I don't have room for either. And I still have an extensive floss collection even though I haven't done cross stitch or braided bracelets in years. I want to try making bobbin lace bookmarks with it before I give it away.Known as Seaswell on HJ1(237808) & HJ2(45120)

I make talismans, witch bundles, witch bottles, and perform rune castings as part of my creativity with others. I am one of the few truly traditional Völva (viking witch) left. I keep as close to the old ways as I possibly can and make various items to sell or trade with others just as my ancestors would. Rune castings however I don't charge for, as it is one of our biggest teachings that we do not ask for money in exchange but trade for other items we need, or the person who wants a casting gives an offering/gift.- Specializing in W3, DFP1, SB2 & Natural Bred Chimera -

I like to sketch horses, I can draw them anytime and anywhere. I am bad it coloring them in but i have made a few oil pastels. I really do all sorts of stuff (phases) including but not limited to:
- Watercolor post cards
- Painting realistic model horses
- Acrylic structures
- Hot glue horse tack miniatures
- Oil pastels
- Chalk pastels
- Word art
- Collaging
- Colored pencil art (I'm really bad at that)
And... digital art.
I also illustrated the medieval poem "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight". -
Cool! Do you have any horsey art you would like to share? If you are good with teeny pixel images you might think about offering to make tattoos for people who aren't quite so art-inclined. Once you get a feel for things and figure out how tattoos work you are welcome to post on the forum and offer your talents!
