I want your input! Help me decide the future of my Dr. Suess Project!
-
My founder sires and dams are getting to that point where it is time to either consider creating replacements for them or begin focusing on the upper generations and breeding for quality and true breeding colors.
I am looking mainly at the founder boy of the Dr Seuss Project: Cat in the Hat. I love this line as well but am thinking about some slight tweaks and this is where I want your input!! This line is chocolate (tryp1) buckskins/dunskins with DP, KP and GP and sprinkling of sabino 1. This is also where I am focusing on ultra heavy bone and only the best of the best are kept intact so very few ponies are meeting the criteria. I do not have as many superior offspring out of this line as I do the others as a result so need to keep breeding the foundation and lower generations to build up my breeding stock for a while longer.
This is my future 4G sire who is almost the exact ideal for this line- just missed 1 copy of KP. This is my vision of what my 4G, 5G, 6G and above lines will look like but with a few tweaks in his future mares possibly coming via the new replacement sire below.
4G Ten Apples TDSP SUP
This Ostara colt is the intended replacement for Cat. If this was your colt and your line, what would you add, subtract, or adjust? I've got my eye on incorporating dun promoter 1 and 2 maybe.. would prefer to stay away from loud fantasy genes like nacre or thunderstruck. Other than that, I'm considering anything.

Personally, I love a little variety in my lines (even the most subtle). Instead of making this guy hom KP, I would do het KP and het KP2. The interaction KP2 has with sabino is super pretty.
I would also do het DFP1 and het DFP2 for the same reasons.
My only other thought is s+ for some nice dappling. I also love the new p+ gene but for some reason I don't feel like it's a good fit for this line and the look you're going for.
Can't wait to see what you decide to do! :)

In my opinion, I think sabino 2 would make an excellent addition to your line, adds some variety without being too loud- also interacts really nicely with KP2. Definitely agree with adding s+, even just het would look nice!Thanked by 1TheBlueMoors

Ooo yes sabino 2 would be an excellent addition as well!Thanked by 1TheBlueMoors

@LadyHawkeStables, thank you so much! Love your thought process on adding some variety in subtle ways. Excellent ideas and I think I will be incorporating your suggestion about KP and KP2 as well as the DFP1 and DFP2! I think that will be the way to add some pizzazz to this line without altering it so much I feel like I am starting over again!
I agree with the new P+.. I love it so much I am adding it to my liver mushroom lines because they are so dark it will be a pretty contrast. With all the dilution in this line (dun and cream), I think the lovely effect of the P+ will be lost. The S+ is an interesting thought however! I wish there was a way to "try" out genes on the ponies before purchasing/GMTing on to see if you like the look first!
@Bluemesa, thank you thank you thank you! I will be incorporating sabino 2 after all. It really is such a lovely white spotting gene I wish there was more of it on this server (along with W8 but that is a whole 'nother thing).
As a small thank you for your thoughts and time, I have transferred a sum to your accounts! Thank you!!
ETA: I have loaded up the DFP2 and 2 copies of Sooty + on the paypal page. Debating now whether to take a chance and wait until next month to load up with the next set of genes (and get more GMT tokens) or buy now. EEK.TheBlueMoors ID 78

I'd buy now in case it doesn't go through next month. I think it's technically a glitch that it sometimes allows that and if you really want those you won't want to miss out!
I also think it's fun to have subtle variation. Do you like pearl? Adding one pearl can be fun because all of a sudden you get a surprise hom pearl at higher generations. You lose that nice washed out look at lower generations for horses that miss the cream gene though so it's a trade off and you would probably want the mares to be hom cream.
You could do a sabino 1 or 2 plus rabicano for more variation. Splash M always looks good to me but it's a lot of hbs. Basically not making anything hom that you aren't very specifically breeding for will give your foals more variety and then if you get bored with the line in 6 months or a year your higher gen horses with have more genes for you to play around with.Thanked by 1TheBlueMoors -
Thank you!! So excited to see how he turns out!! :)Thanked by 1TheBlueMoors

@Pinkie3, I love pearl! That is actually one of the focuses for The Celestial Project that I have running quietly behind the scenes! It really is a lovely color when homozygous! I think due to the depth of the chocolate and cream/dun already running through the herds, adding pearl would wash out the color just a tad too much although that could be an interesting color combo now that you brought it up. Darn it! Now you got my brain whirring away at the possibilities.
Splash M is also one of my favorite white spotting even though it occasionally does not play nice with other white genes. I just added it (and shamrock) into a teeny tiny riding pony project I have that is starting up next month that is going to be a very secret guilty pleasure of mine because all my pixel ponies are fat short cobs and there needs to be tiny refined minis running around and wrecking mayhem.
I am loving the suggestions and just making him heterozygous for a few things so there are different things to select and choose from as the breeding stocks age up and replace older stock! Thank you SO much for your thoughts and I'm sending you a little thank you to your account!TheBlueMoors ID 78

The suggestions above seem fantastic. I do adore your lines, I cant wait to see what you come out with. Have you thought about adding a copy of brown? I've got a line of brown based buckskins elsewhere and it does produce a lovely colour. Have you considered satin? Personally I try and add het satin to my bigger projects as you can get a few hom babies pop up in later generations.
Check out this search (sorry its on HAJ2)

Have you thought about tiger eye? I believe on a buckskin base, you could get babies with green eyes. Here is an example

Overall, best of luck. I cant wait to see what you produce @};-HAJ1-Mitchell022 HAJ2-Ellesmere022/WelshValley HAJ3-ThatLeatherSmell/WelshValley

Ta-Da!! The transformation has begun!! LOL- I promise he looks super pretty underneath all that cream and dun.
The Cat Quizzer TDSP
Probably won't be able to see anything on him thanks to all the dilution he has going buuuuuut his babies certainly will be spectacular when he has his 1st breeding season! Quizzer still has a LOT of work to undergo before he is ready but he is finally on the way. Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions!
@ThatLeatherSmell, excellent suggestion about the brown and one I will incorporate as well! Tiger eye could be super intriguing- think I have tiger eye 2 in his notes! That brownskin is so striking with the green eye it could be fun to have green/amber eyed chocolate buckskins running around! Satin is almost always the answer to everything and he very well may end up with 1 or 2 copies if I stare at him long enough hahaha. Thank you so much and I am sending you a small sum as a token for your time!TheBlueMoors ID 78
