Going along with LadyHawke’s giveaway, I wanted to make a discussion about something I love (other than horses) which are books! I hope there are some other book lovers on this server haha. I’m making this post so that we can share our favorite books, give recommendations, talk about books we’re currently reading, what we want to read, etc.
I’ll start!
I’m currently reading Boy, Snow, Bird by Helen Oyeyemi. I haven’t gotten very far into it yet, but it’s good so far!
One of my favorite books is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It’s a very powerful book.
A book that I want to read is The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It will probably be one of the next books I read, but I’ve been putting it off because it’s SO long.
Your turn! -
Yes!! I love book recommendations! I am super into dystopian/fantasy series. This past year I was introduced to the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss which I absolutely loved. Now I'm just patiently waiting with the rest of the fans for him to release the last book! :))
During quarantine I found out that two my old guilty pleasure series (Eragon and Hunger Games) released new books which was a super fun thing to reminisce on!
I think I may try Dune next as there is supposed to be a movie releasing sometime this year! -
I'm a huge horror and sci fi fan. My favorite authors are Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, and Kurt Vonnegut. I've also been on a huge history kick lately. I read (well, listened to) the Hamilton biography by Ron Chernow that the play is based on. I liked it enough that I picked up the Ulysses S Grant biography he wrote too. I just finished that today - the audio version is literally 48 hours long. I'm going to listen to a founding fathers bio by Gordon Wood after I finish the book I'm on. Before the Grant bio I read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote and Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi.
Right now I'm listening to Hell House by Richard Matheson. I just started it a couple of hours ago, but I'm liking it so far.
Most of the time I listen to audiobooks instead of reading because I have trouble sitting still long enough to read something. -
I'm currently on the second book in the Dune series. I recently got all 8 books on my tablet and I'm loving the reread. Last time I was in high school.
I have no idea what I will read next, cause I have several I haven't started yet.
I think my all time favorite read was the first blade series by Joe Ambercrombie.Known as Seaswell on HJ1(237808) & HJ2(45120)

Oh why am I not surprised the people in this game like best books?
Ladyhawke if you haven't read any Brandon Sanderson please do yourself a favor and get Mistborn immediately then after you finish the initial trilogy start the Stormlight series, which he just released the fourth book of a couple months ago. He also finished the Wheel of Time series after Robert Jordan died and he's amazing. All of my lines of horses are named after his books in some way (Stormlight on Bluegrass, Mistborn on Forest and Edgedancer here). I feel kind of bad for Rothfuss because I think he has ADD and that's part of why he hasn't finished the series and some of the fans treat him really poorly sometimes.
I love Stephen King and I'm currently listening to The Stand audiobook and watching the new show after having read it about 10 years ago, but I've read many of his books and although some are better than others I just love him. About 2 years ago he randomly tweeted that he'd had a nice time at this bookstore in my town and I was so sad that I missed him. When I lived in New Hampshire I also always hoped that he might just randomly show up sometime and that's where I did so much of my King reading :D
I also like sci fi and I'm a big enough Star Trek nerd that I recently read the first two Titan books about Riker's ship and they were better than I expected.
I read about half of the first Dune book a while back and struggled with completing it for some reason have planned to try the audiobook but haven't gotten to it. I've also listened to the first two Wheel of Time audiobooks and have to listen to more of that plus the Stand first. I listen to audiobooks when I exercise and sometimes if it's slow at work so a lot of times I'm in the middle of that plus reading something :)
I really highly recommend Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky for the sci fi people and if you have audible the narrator on that was amazing. -
Yes!! Thank you guys for responding, I’m loving this discussion! I’ve added a lot of the books you guys have mentioned to my ‘Want to Read’ list! It seems as though many of us have similar taste in books which is super cool!

I like the Love Comes Softly books by Jenet Oaks. There is also movies of them. The books are much better and oh so different than the movies. If you have watched the movies and not read the books you are going to have to ignore the difference and try not to compare or you will not get through the books. I actually read them twice and the second time was better because I was not compareing them to the movie.
I also like the When Calls The Heart books to. But same applies to them too. Only I read the books and then watch the shows. But my Favorite book of all is White Fang, followed by Call Of The Wild. -
I am a huge Dean Koontz fan. I have read several of his books, I would have to say that my favorites are the Odd Thomas and Frankenstein series. I am so busy with my farm I unfortunately have not been able to read in several years, I may have to sneak some over due reading in now.

@pinkie3 thanks for the suggestion, maybe I'll try Mistborn next instead of Dune! I've heard good things about Sanderson but haven't tried any of his books yet! :D

I love all the awesome books that are floating around in here. I just gotta throw this in. If you ever want to catch yourself laughing out loud while reading, try Fat Vampire by johnny b truant. There are six books now, but his humor never lags.Known as Seaswell on HJ1(237808) & HJ2(45120)

That one sounds fun and not too intense like the others I've been reading. Thanks for the suggestion!

My favorite book is definitely The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater. Even though it is a Young Adult Book I absolutely love that book. I have read it 5 times! I keep rereading it. I love it so much! I also really like The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans.
Yes I love books about horses! :) -
Reading has always been one of my passions. Books helped me through a difficult childhood. My father was very ill from the time I was 13. I could lose myself in books and put aside the stress for a while.
One of my favorite series is The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny (where I got my stable name). I have read them several times and still enjoy reading them.
The Call of the Wild was one of my favorite books growing up along with all of Walter Farley's books.
I am a huge horror fan and have a huge digital collection of favorites like Stephen King and Dean Koontz.
I also like medical thrillers from authors like Michael Crichton, Michael Palmer and KathyReichs.
Another favorite series of mine is the Pendergast books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

Yes! Book people! All you scifi, hunger games, or horror fans, go read The Girl with All The Gifts and the follow up The Boy on the Bridge. I just started Carrey's new triology but those two are two of the best reads in a long time.
I recommend Such a Fun Age as well.
Off to gather more books to read.
OH and if you haven't read Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine or Let's Pretend This Never Happened, both are amazing.
