Brindle???
  • How do I get brindle
  • Today's I Feel Love herd helper is brindle. :)
  • There are two kinds of horses that could be called brindle.

There are brindles that are homozygous for the DFP1 or Dun Factor Promoter 1 gene. This type of brindle can appear in offspring as well if they also receive two copies of DFP1, one from each parent.

The second kind of horse that can give a brindle look are chimeric horses that have two sets of DNA, so they can show two different coat color patterns in one horse. This is a random mutation and is not inheritable. The easiest way to find chimeric horses is to watch for special rank special creates that are chimeric. Chimeric can appear as brindles with a striped appearance, or as patches of different colors.

Chimerism is something that happens in real life, if you wanted to do some google learning about the condition.

  • There are also horses that are heterogeneous DFP1 and DFP2 (a licensed gene) that can show up brindle.

    Here is an example:

DFP2 is this like “dripping” gene that you just purchase the license for before using. Here is a horse of my own that is homogeneous for this gene.

    Clarification: DFP2 is Not Brindle

Ram mostly explained it all, these were just some additional things I wanted to add :)
