Possible Bug: Straw Breeding Pasture Bonus Mares
-
I have this pasture of mares that for the most part have 30+ day pasture bonuses. https://mesa.huntandjump.com/member.php?uid=12824&p_id=0&sp=y
I have 20ish stallions that I mix and match to these mares. 5 of these 20 stallions are either 20+ years old or deceased.
So for breeding I usually pull all of the mares out of the pasture, and then selectively rotate a few mares at a time back into the pasture with their matched stallion to breed one small batch of mares at a time via pasture breeding. Those foals I expect to have a 30 day pasture bonus.
For my deceased stallions I will leave the mares matched to them in one of my barns. Breed them with a straw, then rotate them back into the pasture afterwards so that they don't lose their pasture bonus. Those foals I expect to have the 15 day bonus.
I did try out a few foals where I pulled an egg from the mare, and created an embryo, then rotated her back into the pasture and bred her own embryo to herself so that I could get the 45 day super bonus on those foals.
I then put all of the foals through strict breeding advice and then comparison test them to a fully maxed generational benchmark. (i.e. starting from c/yellow parents and entire pedigree is maxed). So the foals that pass all of my testing should be top level for their generation. Anything that fails comparison testing is gelded/spayed.
As I went through my testing I noticed a trend that didn't reflect what I was expecting:
My pasture bred foals I had a pass rate of 7%. The small handful that did pass had B/Red foundations somewhere in their pedigree. So they had an advantage in passing my generational benchmark.
My straw bred foals had a pass rate of 87%. Which seems statistically way too high considering they should have had less of a bonus benefit than my pasture bred foals. The few that didn't pass had mothers who had a 5 day pasture bonus instead of the 30+ days.
My embryo bred foals with the 45 day bonus had like a 99% pass rate, which was what I was expecting. The one foal that didn't pass had a mother than only had a 5 day pasture bonus.
Long story short, I believe that my straw bred foals were getting a 45 day bonus, instead of the 15 day bonus I was expecting. Maybe I'm incorrect in my thinking and it's correct that they would get a 45 day bonus? Or maybe it's a bug. In general I feel like my pasture bred foal pass rate was way too low and my straw bred foal pass rate was way too high.
Here's one of the straw bred foals.

Thought this was worthwhile to bring to your attention. Can provide more information if needed.Ramshorn Ranch

Here's the search with all of the "passed foals" I named them according to how they were bred.

It does not sound out of line to me, but I will look into this when I am able. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Isn’t straw breeding supposed to have the same 15 day bonus regardless of the mare’s pasture bonus. Since she’s not pasture bred?Ramshorn Ranch

Yes, and 85% pass rate does not sound that off with foundations. They pass more easily than high gens. I will have to look more closely later though. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

Just to be clear, in case it is relevant. When I am talking about pass rate here I am talking about passing SBA, and comparison testing to my maxed 2nd gens, or maxed 3rd gens from maxed 2nd gens. So the 87% is not only passing SBA but also comparison testing as good as the best possible.
Thanks! I'm not in a rush or anything, just trying to make sure you have all the info you need when you're ready to take a look.

In my limited experience a 45 boost is as good as, if not better than, maxing. It’s sure cheaper.

I agree with that. I just don’t think that most of these foals should have gotten a 45 day bonus the way I was breeding them.
Maybe they had an extra bonus, maybe not. It just seems weird to me that in past seasons I have 10 or less intact foals from these two lines using the same breeding methods. This season I easily doubled that and most of the foals were from straw breedings.Ramshorn Ranch

Looks like it was missing a line that caps the bonus straw breeding can get to 30 days. (Pasture bonus should count up to 30 days but not over for straws) In place now. Thanks!Need to contact me? Read this first.
