Question on pasture bonus
  • If I use a 30+ days pasture mare with an embryo, is there still a chance the foal could fail SBA?
  • Yes. Some crosses can never produce a passing foal.

  • Out of a bootstrap cross like a Yellow Foundation to a **Star, the best possible foal is probably like a *star/A level or something like that. (I haven't done enough crosses to know exactly, but that's a ballpark). So even the best possible foal is nowhere close to the **star stallion in ability and would fail SBA.

  • I'm wondering if Khisanth meant foals from a mostly even pairing?
  • Well what prompted my question, is I’ve been pretty selective in the pairings that I create embryos from that get a 30+ pasture mare due to having a limited number of pasture mares in general.. I’ve only done a few implants and all have passed SBA.
I mistakenly ran SBA on an entire barn, and some of the foals I ‘thought’ I had used a 30+ mare and had previously passed SBA failed. I’m not 100% sure on this - I’ve been distracted with real world stuff (haha) and spaced on updating my breeding notes. So I thought if it was a given they would automatically pass SBA with 30+ bonus, then I would know for sure. I think. :D
  • They can't have passed SBA before and then failed a second round. It won't even test them a second time. So you know if it tests a horse they have not been tested before.

  • Oh I get you— yeah if the whole barn went sba and passed I think you used embryos. If you have more than one or two, it was a normal pasture.
