Comparison testing question
  • I have these three foals that I have a question on:
    https://mesa.huntandjump.com/adv_search.php?owner=15017&owner_lm=like&barn=27649&barn_lm=like&runsearch=go

I comparison tested them to another gen 4 mare who is maxed and *gold papered. They test AGA to her, even though they are blue papered.

How can they be AGA in breeding quality having different papers? I always thought papers were the most important part in determining breeding quality.
  • They are about as good as her, not exactly as good as her. This means she is a very low gold and they are very high blue.
Need to contact me? Read this first.

I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

  • Breeding Papers have a range. For example a B papered foundation can have B offspring that tests superior, and I've had a C stallion test AGA his B son. So your *Gold mare is the low end of Gold, and the Blue mares are almost Gold quality!
At least that's how I understand it ;)
  • Right. So let’s say there is a 3 pt variance for AGA.

The gold mare is at 21.
    Blue foal 1 is 18.
    Blue foal 2 is 19.
Imaginary blue foal 3 is 17.

Foal 1&2 will test AGA because the breeding numbers are within 3. Foal 3 will test worst than.

Now imagine foal 4, a gold at 25. That foal will test AGA to the mare as well, despite being almost a half gen of quality ahead (+6).

Papers are number boundaries. The AGA doesn’t care about the number boundaries, just if things are within 3 of each other.

(I do not know if 3 is the correct number, fyi, but the concept stands.)
