After doing some intensive testing I have found that these days the primary era club lags too far behind. Members are breeding horses that are so much better than they did in the past that it makes sense to move the primary era (that one that gives extra prizes) up. Basically, it is now possible to reach cap quality in just over 1 year of breeding effort so leaving an era for 2 years means it is possible for players breeding in a later era to use smart boosting to dominate an era that they did not build their line in. If you don't understand what this means don't worry. Just know that the change is to keep era breeding competition fun and fair. There is no point in having the primary era come so late that the only horses who are at cap or boosted post cap can compete.

To accomplish that for the next 6 months we will have two primary LB eras.

Bluegrass Primary Era Calendar:
December 23: Era 12 and Era 13 will give extra prizes
June 24: Era 14 will give extra prizes.

Forest Primary Era Calendar:
December 23: Era 10 and Era 11 will give extra prizes
June 24: Era 12 will give extra prizes.

Mesa Primary Era Calender:
December 23: Era 2 and Era 3 will give extra prizes
June 24: Era 4 will give extra prizes.

I am still doing my testing and it is very likely we will have two primary eras in June 24 as well but I am starting with shifting things by six months. Also, I will be manually adjusting these eras after the rollover so don't be surprised if you don't see both eras as primary right away.

I plan to add a few more color breeder clubs to the leaderboard in December. Do you have a suggestion for a color/gene that could use its own club? Let me know below. I will be picking from the suggestions based on which ideas have the most horses that qualify for them.

I have done some investigating and made some notes on suggestions I have seen so far.

The largest clubs currently are DP, Appaloosa, Cream and Fantasy Open.

Belton is large enough for a club now. Gray reduction is borderline. Platinum is much too small for its own club and won't be getting one. Some of the suggestions I am seeing for splitting clubs there is no point too. The clubs are small enough already.

We could potentially have E and ee versions of DP, Appaloosa, Cream, and Fantasy: Open clubs.

A club for platinum would provide some diversification for those otherwise ineligible for anything other than the open fantasy club. I did look and the numbers are still a bit low- 1311 horses but still looks like it is an gene actively bred for and sought after here.

Was also looking over the DP club and right now there is over 63 thousand horses registered in there- I would love to see some subsections.. not sure how that could work.. maybe 3 sections- red based with DP, bay based with DP, and black based with DP?
-I went and looked at how many horses in each base color have DP and it was... eye opening. Granted fantasy horses were a part of that first group search and aren't eligible for DP club regardless but wow I was a little surprised by the sheer number of DP present in the game.

Bay (E_A_) with one copy of DP- 146,801 horses (107,682 without fantasy)
black (E_aa) with one copy of DP-47,646 horses (33,991 without fantasy)
red (ee??) with one copy of DP- 48,405 horses (34,611 without fantasty)

The primary eras leaderboard retooling sounds good! I am excited to see how that shakes up things!

I’d like to see white spotted broken up. I’m not sure how that would best be done but it’s a big category.

Cream is a surprisingly competitive.

Grey isn’t competitive and I think having a gr category isn’t great for that reason.

Because of Appy Hour (amazing) appy is big. I wonder if there could be a halo varnish category?

What about a category for clones/things made by the university? Many of those are ridic good and it would give those players a specific place to show off.

I wonder if there could be a giant category to go with collectible? Only for horses over 19+ or whatever. Then again, collectible has almost nothing in it.

I’m torn on skipping the eras forward. I agree that it is possible to join an era and be at cap in a year. I agree that new players likely want to see us in higher eras. But if you look at era 1, 2, and 3 that isn’t happening. Yes, it /can/ be done, and I see a specific player doing it, but overall, I’ve been bumping heads with the same people on era 2 and 3 for the past long while. 4 is not a good example because of all the embroys that have gone out and all the maxing.

The other thing is that only old players can really boost and max. By saying that we are going to move eras up so the people with lots of hbs can’t dominate two year old leaderboards, I don’t think we are solving that problem. By skipping one era, that gives you 18 months to get a horse to cap or over, which you can do, and therefore I’m not sure why we’d change that?

Also I can get a horse at cap in any advanced era by buying a few embryos. I don’t think the timing from 24 to 18 will change that.

If the eras are designed as a starting place for new players to get on the board, this change doesn’t seem to benefit that goal. Why not instead remove boosted horses from the era leaderboards or something? I’m not sure the solution fits the problem.

Fantasy Open is why I suggested the fantasy clubs listed.

I feel as a fantasy breeder I have way less options for LBs and therefore I'm almost of the mind to not keep going with fantasy, except my bootstrap line. And I have actively bred less fantasy horses because I feel this way.

I paid for fantasy genes for fantasy horses but at this point I feel ill just bite the loss and breed non fantasy since there are 10 fantasy clubs vs 43 non fantasy clubs.

My other thought would be fantasy size and fantasy Era clubs.

I really like the idea of LBs for boosted/cloned horses. No idea how that would look but it would allow for players who are boosting/cloning tons of horses somewhere to compete with like playing players, and where bootstrap lines would have a place to continue on.

For new players Era LBs are meant to help them get started on even playing ground. I think it should continue that way. And I'm very excited for Era 7.

I'm not new and my bootstrap lines have been where I've been able to be competitive on LB. Mixed feelings on this.

What about changing Collectibles to being able to be shown and earn points? I always wondered why they weren’t able. I wonder if that would increase participation? I’m attempting to get some horses on the boards simply because of the low participation.

Are there enough Error Unknown horses to make a new club?

And I second somehow adding more Fantasy clubs, but other than Error Unknown I wouldn’t know what to suggest.

Boosting is already factored in with the era system. Era 0 is for that. All lines that are boosted will quickly end up in era zero.

All "Error Unknown" horses are Axiom genes and they already have their own club. No, it is not large enough to split.

I don't want to have a fantasy club for every era for multiple reasons but we might be able to do an era 0 fantasy and an all other eras fantasy. That would break away the most heavily boosted lines from everything else. Not sure if I would split fantasy open or make two new clubs though. And not sure if it is possible yet

But not under saddle they don't and our showing is under saddle over fences. We are moving the game away from that core idea so maybe eventually they could be shown. For now, though they won't be able too.

If I split open fantasy into ee, Ee and EE it divides it up into 3 much more reasonably sized clubs.

I do own platinum and would breed that line more if they were able to be registered other than open fantasy.

Platinum breeders, if you want a club next time I add them you will need to put many thousands of foals on the ground in the interim. There are several other genes with much larger populations who deserve a club first.

Update on this post. We will once again have two primary eras for the June to December cycle. Monitoring all 3 servers I can clearly see that in the June to December period boosting will displace the top lines from the primary era, meaning that boosting will decide who wins the primary era awards not who was competitive in that era for the entire run-up time. I don't think it's fair for a member who did not participate in an era to get all the most prestigious awards for that era.

The reason boosting can overtake an earlier era is because of the ability cap. With normal breeding, If you are six months behind you will never catch up to the best-performing lines of the prior era. Once the prior era hits cap though they stop getting better so the newer era can catch up.

Pushing the primary era one slot forward again protects the work breeders do for their eras and makes sure they are getting all the accolades for other efforts.
