Which stud foal should I keep?
-
Hey everybody! I have a couple stud foals that passed my new requirements! These foals below are from B/Red papers, have atleast a A paper and have passed SBA, are consistent, and tested superior. The fact is though, I have so many stallions and so im narrowing my collection down to 2. Which 2 would you all like to see foals from, and who you think is the best?!
#1
32G Terrible Cranberry
Bay dun splash. Era 3.
#2
42G Spectacular Champion
White spotted bay splash. Era 4
#3
32G Knocking Pieces
Silver bay. Era 3.
#4
41G Terrible Ally
White spotted bay. Era 4. B/Yellow lines but papered A and superior.
Let me know what you all think and whoever I don't keep I will be selling! -
What are your goals? Highest quality of foals? Most intact foals? Foals with cool colors? Futurity stuff?
-
Highest quality.

Have you comparison tested them to each other?Ramshorn Ranch

If it was my decision personally, I’d comp test to each other (though they may all be close enough to test AGA).
#4 comes from B-Yellow, which would probably place him on the lower spectrum of A (though it is still impressive for that cross! Just in comparison to the others).
For the other 3, they should be pretty close in breeding ability, which leads me to look at their PT scores. #1 and #2 are the highest of the group, so those are probably the ones I would go with. :) -
I will comp test to each other and update results!
-
Ok. Good/Bad news! They all tested AGA. I do like to keep my white spotted/splash babies, but since 4 comes from B/yellow not sure if i should keep him. Color wise I would have to pick 1 & 3. Would everybody think that’s a good decision?
-
Have you considered cloaning spectacular champion and making the result your era 3 stud? Since your genes are less extravagant than some, the cloan cost might not be that high.
-
No. I’ve tried the era game and don’t really have a ton of fun but I do have an era 6 breeding line so I like to focus on that.
-
If they all test AGA each other I would probably geld the B/yellow cross just because he is more likely to be slightly lower in ability even if he’s close enough to test AGA.
After that I’d look at consistency, color and PT in that order of importance. This is assuming era doesn’t matter based on your previous comment.
In my barn I would look at era as well and how they paper/comparison test to my current main stallion in that era.
Based on this Terrible Cranberry would be my pick. But if you like white horses and white 1 (not my preference) Spectacular Champion would be my pick.

Ok! It will be settled! I will sell the other two and geld B/yellow!
Terrible Cranberry will be my new gen 2 stud from this years stallions. I always keep one and then get rid of that foundation stallion to try and keep new lines always in rotation..
