Trying to start a breeding programme
-
Hello!
I was browsing through the forum and absolutly fell in love with this horse:
CHF1 Sally Beginning
I really want to start breeding similar, but I'm not quite sure where to start. What sort of genes do I need to look for? And does anyone have any horses or genetic material available?
I absolutely love the colouration and am desperate to create my own, but don't know where to start! Thank you in advance for any help. -
Start with the genetics. It is a bay, so you want E? A? as your starting point. This horse has StySty and DPDP which is most likely what gives it that dappled appearance. Look out for Herd Helpers that give you those kind of genetics, and if you can afford GMTs you can tweak the genetics to make it perfect.
Unfortunately, I only breed ee horses on this server so I can't help you with genetic material, but there are lots of lovely people in this game and I'm sure someone can help you out. Good luck. :)HAJ1 White Valley #60847 HAJ3 minimum #175

I love these dark buckskins too! This exact look is easiest to find by looking for those exact genes:
Pigment Modifiers
Black: E/E
Bay(Agouti): A/A
Cream: Cr/-
Dense Pheomelanin: DP/DP
Sooty: Sty/Sty
Pangare: p/p
However, it's important to keep in mind that each image is created from a unique seed. So even if you cloned this horse, the clone's image may look slightly different. Dapples in particular are known to come and go with different image seeds, but you do have the ability to generate a new image if you want to play around with those.
This horse you shared is a New Coke rank special with a bonus copy of cream. I just happen to have a New Coke candy horse that I have put up for sale for you! You can pull the GMT from this horse and use it to add a copy of cream to try and recreate the look. You can also try adding different genes to see the impact of each one (and refund the GMT if you don't like the look). I think that lab is a great way to get a better understanding of the genetics!
Sorry for the essay :)) Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you both, this is incredibly useful. I'm still really new at understanding the genetics so having it laid out really simply for me is massively helpful!
@ladyhawkestables that is an incredibly generous thing to do, thank you. I'll have a play around in the gene lab today and see what I can come up with. I love the New Coke HH, it's so beautiful. -
Good luck with your project, Snowpeak! I am trying to breed this type of sooty dapples, too. Saving up those GMTs for S+ and DPs!

I played around in the gene lab as suggested and she came out perfectly with just one try! Thank you so much for all the help, I adore her.

I'm still looking to buy similar horses or genetic material if anyone has any available!
