Clone, Clones, and Cloning Question(s)
-
Cloning is one of the few topics that have a bunch of questions about it that are hard to answer, since its so limited to which users can use the feature, so here are a few more “simple” ones of my own;
- How much does it cost to clone a horse? And, Would it be fair if I paid a person the exact price (and more) to clone a horse of mine?
- Which horses “qualify” to be cloned?
- Is cloning worth it? (Opinion based question, just wanna know your thoughts on this one)
- How many horses on the board are clones? And, How does it affect the placement for awards?
- (And to all the folks who do use the Cloning option), How frequently do you clone?
The reason I’m asking is not only for clarification but I’m trying to decide if I want to go down the road of purchasing a 1 month premium upgrade (to be able to clone), or going the other way and paying someone to clone the horse I own.
Thank you for your feedback and time! I appreciate everyone’s help with these questions!AmberHaven300 (she/her)

There may be incorrect or missing information—please correct me if something is wrong.
- the cost in hbs it would take to essentially create that horse using GMTs. 1 GMT edits do not count. I would say it’s fair BUT the horse has to be bred by the person who is cloning!
- any horse that is bred by you. Keep in mind that anything “bred” by the university is NOT considered bred by you
- I’d say yeah if you’re double boosting. or cloning an old or archived horse. really just depends on your goals.
- Not sure. also not sure. I think it only affects if they're double boosted.
- Either when I reach cap for an era or when I have a really pretty era 0 horse

"and hasn’t been bred yet." - That's for GMTs. Bred horses can be cloned.
Just FYI, you can't pay someone else to use their upgrade only features for you.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Okay, thank you! What I’m getting at is the price depends on the horse I want to clone? And, the horse has to be bred by me.
I also know that you can clone horses to try to get over 15 PT, Does anyone have a general idea the percentage of horses cloned from an individual, that have a higher PT? And is there a “specific number of clones” I have to make to achieve a higher PT? (Sorry if the wording is confusing)
And Thank you Ammit! I wasn’t 100% sure if I’m able to do that since I couldn’t find it written in the rules (and if it is, then I’m just blind), so thanks again for clarifying!
I would still like feedback on the questions, (besides for Question 1, Part B). Thanks!AmberHaven300 (she/her)

more answers! lolWhat I’m getting at is the price depends on the horse I want to clone? And, the horse has to be bred by me.
yup
- I think clones can drop .5 or go up .5 PT, and the probability is equal for all of them. So it’s just 1/11 for any PT, higher or lower. Higher PTs would be 5/11 of clones.DarkPhoenix #15470 (she/her) ~ Premium Upgrade

I primarily only use cloning for my backwards breeder line. Most of those horses are pretty plainly colored (which means cheap clones), and we don't have the benefit to max or boost anything to try to keep pushing the breeding ability downward. So trying to get a good number of foals that comparison test badly enough to keep is a matter of breeding lots of foals each season. Cloning is a good way to increase my number of bad enough foals because I can comparison test everything and then clone the keepers to increase my number of keeper foals each season.Ramshorn Ranch

I only clone horses I've GMTed to continue a project mainly (unless they are too expensive :)) ) or if I have a certain horse I want to boost/carry on a line. (May have aged out)Thanked by 1AmberHaven300

@RamshornSportHorses I never thought of doing that! :D
And @TripleGFarm, that’s smart, especially if ifs a big line you’ve been working on and don’t want to spend more to create another stallion who could be potentially worst than the original. Love that!AmberHaven300 (she/her)

You can clone foals. Mine are usually on the older side, once I compile more IVs. ;)Thanked by 1AmberHaven300

Is there a limit about how many times a horse can be cloned? I am wondering why I can not clone horses that have been clones before.

Gotta post the horse for us to help :)
And no there is no limit.Need to contact me? Read this first.

@Rhapsody there's no limit for the original horse to be cloned (although the price will double), but you cannot clone a clone. Is the horse itself a clone?DarkPhoenix #15470 (she/her) ~ Premium Upgrade

Can I clone an archived horse who wasn’t originally bred by me, but the horse was last owned by me?

The horse has to be bred by you. That's why clones can't be cloned--they're owned by the uni.
unless there is a change for archived horses, I'm not sure.DarkPhoenix #15470 (she/her) ~ Premium Upgrade
