Miniature horse breeding
-
Just wondering how to breed for the proper sized minis. Do they have to be hom. A height regulator, or can you just breed down in size until they are small? I don't want to spend hbs on breeding them this month if it won't help fill the leaderboard ;)Thanked by 1WensumValleyPonies

I would also like to know the game limits on this.
I've been dabbling at getting my cobs down to under 13hh, but don't want them to turn into PomPom ponies (as I don't like the BC image) and still want them to be able to show if they are gelded / spayed.
I've had a quick look through the horse search but got bored looking through several pages of ponies to work it out.**Wensum Valley Ponies**

I am also wondering about this.
The smallest I can find in the search without the height regulator gene is 12 hands.Thanked by 1WensumValleyPonies -
I am not an expert, but have been playing around in the search.
The Miniature breeder's club states horses must be less than 9 hands tall to qualify. Searching for anything less than 9 hands I did find 1 horse that was heterozygous for height regulator:
Kh PB Magenta Sun
I did not find any horses that did not have height regulator at all.
There are a little over 100 homozygous for height regulator.
================
There are over 1000 horses that are heterozygous for height regulator, but taller than 9 hands. So I am guessing those would not qualify for the club.
================
Based on the above findings, I would say you have a slim chance of getting a qualified horse with heterozygous height regulator, but would have better chances shooting for homozygous height regulator. My guess is that breeding small and having height regulator play together to produce smaller than 9 hands.Ramshorn Ranch

@WensumValleyPonies
You do not need to be worried about your cobs turning into pon pons by breeding small! The Pon Pon BC is limited edition and only available to be created on certain days, and maybe if you had a BC subscription you could use it then as well. (Not totally sure on that second point.)
Here's a whole search of cobs less than 13 hands and you can see that they are not pon pons.

Your horses can't magically turn into a BC that you don't own is the moral of the story.

Thanks @RamshornSportHorses.
Thant makes me feel better that my smaller ponies won't change to a new BC.
I also know I'm way off with my smallest being 12.3hh!**Wensum Valley Ponies**

@OTTB1 that's what I found too. Nothing smaller than 12hh without the regulator gene.
But is it possible, I take not from the search...**Wensum Valley Ponies**

I asked on Discord, and 12 hands is the smallest possible without the gene.Thanked by 1WensumValleyPonies
