So exciting! Don't remind me how far I'm behind, haha. I was pretty excited to get to -2.9 on one of my clones this year. I'm almost breaking into the -3s!

He would have been a cheap clone anyways. You'll end up with 3 GMTs out of it probably, that was worth it I think.

Same here, for a good solid week I had spots 1-25 on the board and I felt bad, sometimes I do it early and other times I’m sitting, anticipating how high (low* in this case) you will get.

I’ve always wondered what’s the lowest you can go, glad to know you hold the record now :)

I got curious and on forest the lowest PT is -5.5 by PestilentTempest this season. We’re going pretty quick actually, I gotta admit that the backwards breeders are my major breeding project I’m actually focused on lol

lol I always forget about them until the end of the season (20th ish). Hence, doing my breeding yesterday.

New goal: beat forest. :)) There's no limit, right? Imagine -15 PT horses :O

Oohhh, and I wish there was lower paper levels instead of just failed/showable only so we could see just how bad they are. But I guess the point of that level is saying "don't breed them, nooo..."

I actually get a lot of satisfaction out of my backwards project. I think having low expectations means that I’m happy no matter what.

At first I was a little hung up on not having paper levels to see progress, but nowadays I comparison test everything anyways. So it’s not such a big deal to rely on comparison testing instead. Honestly, it’s probably ended up being the best planned out project out of all of my projects because I had to plan how to go about it from the very beginning.

My backwards breeding is my least planned project lol. I just breed, comparison test, keep the bad ones, and breed some more :D

I think my methods changed a lot when the perfectly awful hh came out because I began actually seeing progress.

For some reason I always like to breed my backwards breeders first before I start in on the rest of the herd.

Next season I'll have a legitimate pair of 5th gens to use to I should make a bigger progress jump between this season and next.

I'm surprised there isn't someone going harder on bluegrass for it.

Out of curiosity I pulled a stallion from each gen to compare their average foal PT and see how far I'm getting each gen:

2nd Gens: average -0.7
3rd Gens: average -0.93
4rd Gens: average -1.36
5th Gens: average -2.5

Interestingly I seem to be gaining more ground each generation. Maybe you're not as far behind as you think?

Sadly I can’t clone but she sure surprised me! Earlier yesterday I was thinking about how lucky I would be if I go a -5.2, a bonus that her dad was 1 out of 3 stallions that tested worse that my worst producing stallion :)

That's a generous offer, but part of my goal for my backwards breeders is that it's an entirely homebred line. Since the line doesn't really make any income I am being strict in other ways to make it challenging and rewarding for me personally.
