Straws and eggs?
  • I hope this doesn’t sound dumb, but will someone please explain how straws and eggs work, what the strategy is for collecting them is, and how to use them?
  • Straws and eggs are used for AI breeding. AI breeding gives a bonus to the foal, but it costs more. Straws and eggs can be sold to other players. Strategy for collecting them….just collect however many you want? To collect them, go to the family tab on a horse’s page. To use them, go to the AI Breeding Lab where you can use straws on mares, or create embryos from eggs, which you can then implant into a surrogate to get the foal. (surrogate doesn’t affect the foal, but there is a new thing where the days in pasture of a surrogate will add on to the AI bonus)

  • Great! Thank you. One more question- How do I control how long a surrogate is in a pasture?
  • You just put them in the pasture. They should stay there lol. The days cap out at 30.

  • There is some strategy to why you might use straws and eggs.

Straws don’t count towards a stallions 50 live cover foals per season count. So you can get more than 50 foals out of a stallion in a season.

Also using eggs you can get more than one foal from a mare in a season.

The main reason I use it is not all of my mares are in pastures so I don’t get a pasture bonus on pasture breeding for all my mares. Using straws or eggs is a way to at least get the smaller AI breeding bonus with those mares.

  • Ahhh. Thank you. This clears it up for me.
  • I’d also say that it was about a year in before I cared about straws and eggs. They get expensive, fast.
  • Good advice :)
