Maxing and Boosting Scores
  • Could someone give me number examples of what happens to the PT of a horse before and after maxing, then after boosting? I just want to compare scores and find out which one is the better option. And I do know that the affect will vary between horses due to the parents quality / the horse’s heritage all.

Alright I hope this makes sense, thanks!

  • Pretty sure boosting doesn’t affect PT, just breeding ability. And maxing, well you said it; it depends on the parents and the horse. There’s no way to calculate or anything.
Also there’s no “better option.” One improves both showing and breeding, while one majorly improves breeding and lowers the era.

edit: these guys have info in their notes

  • DP has it. The only way PT moves is through improving consistency in the GMT lab or by maxing the horses potential.
  • Okay Phoenix that system some how I actually gathered information from, and I like that, Thanks!

  • If you are going to MAX and BOOST you should MAX FIRST then BOOST SECOND.

Maxing has no era penalty and will just take the foal to the best possible breeding and showing the parents can produce. Consistency is not affected. So a foal can make a big jump or a little jump in scores depending on how close they were to max before.

Boosting will add the 5% to the breeding ability, there will be a -1 era penalty. The others would be a better expert on if it affects PT or consistency.

The caution with boosting is that you want to make sure the foal is pretty top notch before boosting. Say for example you have a really crappy foal out of some great parents. After the 5% boost the foal might still be worse than both of his parents and would fail SBA testing. Since you're investing real life money into boosting, I would want to be pretty darn sure the foal is going to turn out top notch before spending my money.

  • (Or spending 200 IVs to boost.)
  • Can you boost with IVs? I thought it was only real life money.

  • I'll be darned, you can buy them with IVs. It probably has always been that way and I just didn't realize it or forgot because it's out of my price range IV wise.

  • Keeping building your show herd and it won't be :)
  • Yes there has always been a way to buy with IVs for as long as we have had boosts in the game.
