Show Horse questions?
  • OK so
1)I would like to know to keep or toss?
    2) what is your qualifications buying show horses?
What is the standard you hold your show horses at,
I've just been keeping anything 200pt or higher for my daily but most of them are 10 years old and only 100+ points.
Vs 3 of my 11 year Olds have 1000+ points
***I am willing to take the hit in my daily income if it means I will have a better result showing outta the future *****
I'm at 6k+ daily and the 1000 stall barn I won is already at 100+ horses but most are young horses
So I would love a age vs points range that yall higher players with the higher incomes use to keep or toss your horses.
    Foal-3 :
    1year-2year:
    Ect....
Because at this point I've been tossing anything foal wise at the end of the season that I don't intend to breed that's lower than a 2.pt
I am open to buying pastures for mares in my breeding stock if I have to as well

  • -I keep everything until they turn 10.
-For buying show horses, just anything with points :). (usually over 400 when under 10yrs and over 1000 when over 10 yrs, but thats just my preference and how much money I want to spend) The foundation rescue is a great place to get pointed horses for cheap, and if they don’t pass criteria when they turn 10, you can toss them in auction to get lifetime payout.
-For me, everything over 10 years has to have over 500 points. (I know some people go through all of their horses to see who is leveled off, and who isn’t earning points, but I’m too lazy for that) I clear out at the start of each season.
-I keep all of my foals until they turn 10, regardless of pt or points. Don’t get rid of them. Unless I really run out of space and money and I will start tossing them into auction. And anything you don’t want to breed, geld/spay and throw them in a show barn! They might earn you tons of points! Keep filling up that 1000 stall barn, doesn’t matter if they’re still young!
-Pastures are great! Gives you a pasture bonus and you can ignore the fact that you have too many breeders :D

This has been my method, and I think this got my daily payout from like 2k to over 100k in maybe 4-5 months. Once your daily payout starts going up, it goes up. and up. and even faster. And before you know it, you’ll be at 100k!

I didn’t look through your horses carefully, but you can see clearly that you have WAY more breeders than showers. It should be the opposite :)) (don’t worry, I was the same) Try to aim for around 3-5 showers for every breeder. And cull your breeders hard. Get rid of ones you like if you know you won’t use them. Even if you will use them. I know, it’s sad.

    Hope this helps!

  • @DarkPhoenix oh I know I have a problem :-))
I did have almost 500 something mares till I culled almost all of them
Now I only use about half for actually breeding the rest I use for Embryo implants.
Pasture bonus? Is that the days in Pasture breeding thing?

  • So I need to keep my foals, but at what point is it just taking space? That's my main thing because I have some foals that are 4.0 show vs 0.5 show
And if no points before roll over and last in all shows they have entered I usealy get rid of them
I guess my problem is I look at it to closely being harsh

  • Don't even look at them until they are 10.

  • Generally the lower the PT score the lower their lifetime payout, but if you're still creating pointed horses then keep anything that has a decent number of points because over their lifetime you'll make good HBs regardless of their PT score. If you have a premium upgrade make sure you have your barns set to auto show and if you don't, don't forget to show every barn twice every week because that will drastically improve payoff as they get older.

Some good info for later is that you'll probably find that horses in the 11 to 12 PT range aren't usually great for showing, but you'll want to keep them anyways until you are consistently creating horses above that and then go back and cull only if you need space. Never cull if you have open stalls in that big show barn because a low payout is better than 0 from an empty stall.

If you are still creating pointed horses you should also consider only creating horses from exceptionally perfect and exceptional show horse her helpers. They tend to earn more over their lifetime than lower PT horses.

Also, when creating horses for showing make sure to create them as foals so you get every possible month or payout and training.
  • Here's my advice specific to your situation *right now*

KEEP EVERYTHING. Absolutely everything. You have a 1000 stall barn; fill it. You should only cull if you are running out of space (or if you need the cash from auctioning horses over age 9). I'm about to hit 250,000 a day, and my altered foals are a HUGE part of that. And I actually have an embarrassing amount of second gen colts from Era 5 who are now over 10; imagine if I had sorted and altered all of them! Definitely watch the auction for pointed horses, and for young horses with a high PT (like 12+). Alter as much as possible. I only keep surrogate mares who are leveled off, because they won't earn a training bonus from altering. I'd say that you should alter any embryo mares who are not already leveled off, and then fill up with ⁹ year old foundation rescue mares. On the first of next month, sell those mares and get a new batch of 9 year olds.

When you finally have the 1000 show barn full, my advice will be different. But for now, numbers are your friend!!

I'm adding you to my chat for a little gift ;)
  • I would 100% agree with Waly's advice. Once your 1000 stall barn is filled and you are running out of show horse space, that's when I would be looking at number and what is more valuable to keep vs. cull.

Also, if you can be very selective in culling your breeding herd, that opens up more space for the show ponies.

  • I cull at 6 if anyone isn’t over 150 and I need space. This is a stupid idea because I get nothing for it— and I don’t know where those horses will level off. But the FF leads to some odd logic. I cull at 450 at 10. Anything under 450 goes into auction. At 10 horses earn their lifetime payout in the auction.

I wait until the end of the month and sort my show horses by points earned that month. I don’t look at where they are leveled off, but if someone is only making 10hbs a month, they are gone. Sometimes sentiment overrides this. I see you’ve got a 19 year old with low points— if it makes your heart happy, keep it.

You should have triple the showing stock than breeding stock, at least. I have 6140 altered horses and 1025 breeders. Fill that 1000+ barn. I have so many of Khithsan’s horses it isn’t even funny— search the auction and buy high PT horses.

(You’ll also find that some players dump high quality futurie foals in the auction, as you can see here. There are foals from Wicked Tundra, Titans Regards, Doppleganger, Wicked 10, and Summers Crown Royal all in the auction right now, for 2500, unlocked. Good times.)

Your embryo mares should come from the foundation rescue not from stock you have sitting around. Mares (stallions, too) don’t train well, so they are taking up space. I recommend searching for 10 year olds, from user 13, sorted by maximum points. Buy them, implant them, auction them. I just did this and I made about 6K per mare (the FR is currently at 350 points.) Otherwise, create, don’t test, and toss in auction. Here is my foundation rescue search:

    https://mesa.huntandjump.com/adv_search.php?runsearch=go&status2=1&jump=0&agee=10&f_adv=points_py&stallion=0&gelding=0&spayedmare=0&bty=0&owner=13&56=0&57=0&58=0&59=0&60=0&61=0

If you have inbred embryo mares at the end of the month (which I don’t have because I make and toss them) put them in your pasture and make foals, and then sell those unwanted foals to the auction for 2500 each.

    More questions?

The 1000 stall barn was transformative for me. (Thanks Confluence Ranch!) I hope you have the same experience.
  • Thank you all! So I went through my breeding stock and gelded/spayed a bunch of stock, ended up with 3 that were 11 and 100pt so I tossed them in auction for pay out to buy show ponys.
I'm still off show to breeder ratio but I definitely made a dent in starting to get more show vs breeding stock.
Some were sad to fix but they didn't pass sba anyway and even if I wanted to GMT max them it would cost me more in the long run anyway so I just sent them to the barn.
I was pleased to see I had a ton of 11 year old mares that were 450pts and above so that was nice to see
    @SummerMonarch
I went and bid on a few of those in auction as well and yeah the FD rescue has been my bff lately since I figured out I messed up after I hit my point cap and had nothing to show for it (face palm)
I think alot of players make that same mistake we see the monetary gain in selling our highest point creates to users who have hit the cap but never stoped to ask ourselves exactly why is this basic create worth so much to them?
I have definitely used my mistakes to help newer players to keep most of their high pointed creates
And it's not like everyone and their momma didn't say hey Ride keep those! But it's like it didn't click why it was important, now that I'm using the Lab way more and GMT projects I definitely see why that daily income is important

  • @Walywoohoo thank you! She went straight in the barn.
So now it's a waiting game and to remember to be harsh on my breeders from now on just because it's pretty and I spent so much in lab doesn't mean I should keep it unless it's worth the extra boost

  • I feel you about pointed horses and creates. I was new right when we did the changeover to how pointed ponies work and that was a whole journey for me.

But new players are in a weird situation. They make no money yet so they are desperate to get fast cash. Sometimes I think it’s even less about understanding and more that the game is more fun with more hbs. Selling lets you mess around with the game while you are still setting up your show barns.

Give up yourself a break. :)
  • @SummerMonarch
Oh I am I just wish I would have kept all the 1000+ points creates vs selling those, and that's exactly it the quick money allowed me to get all the tack packs, all the extra barns for my fantasy bootstrapping, and a few gmt projects. But I definitely didn't fully comprehend it would stop at the cap, I figured if I sold enough low pointed horses those points would come back to me in create a horse I was very confused on how that all worked
