Need your Feedback on the Thoroughbred.
-
We are ready for feedback on our next BC. This time it is the Thoroughbred. Please let us know any issues with the line art you spot that need addressing.
-Please do not post photos here. We have found photos during the feedback phase unhelpful at best and downright confusing at worst.
-You are always welcome to edit, draw on, mark up, or otherwise alter the below images in any way you want to more clearly show your feedback. (If you are doing heavy edits please use the no mane and tail version.)
-Please be very clear and explicit with your feedback. Saying "The leg looks odd" is completely unhelpful, and expects us to be mindreaders. Good feedback looks like "The front near side leg on the adult as a cannon bone bows out at the ankle." We need to know which image, which part specificity, and what you think does not look right.
These posts normally run for about 24 hours. Thank you so much for your help.
Adult Images
Foal Images
**Just a note, yes this horse is large withered, a bit long, and a bit underbuilt in the hind end. These are intentional choices I have made as I feel it best represent the breed. I want a horse that looks like many of the OTTB's many people own and love. So please know that I won't be changing those aspects. We are also going for a very young baby with this foal. We plan to add a bit of ribbing in the shading to help sell that.
This will be a light/medium BCNeed to contact me? Read this first.

Over all body looks good on the adult, except for the neck and head area, head is good but neck set is off. I will do a mark up and post it here once I am done.
Here is what I did:
I made neck set a bit higher and the head has a straighter profile, of course anyone can tweak this. When I think of a TB I see horses that have a more upright neck set and a straight head profile but I base my TB conformation on the American TB that I see race and I love my TBs. I hope this helps out. I am not has good has some of our talented HAJ memders but I tried, I am a bit out of practice with my art work and I use to draw all the time in my youth and it was mostly horses lol, Kat
The foal needs a bit of work it is very unbalanced to me, I will find a good foal picture to look at. It is the neck and head area - looks too small for the body, I will see if I can tweak it and post when I am done.
Here is the foal
I gave a bit more length to the foal's neck so in looks more balanced with the foal's body. Anyone can tweak this if they wish to.

I would agree with RKO that I would prefer a more upright neck and head position on the adult. I also think that the cannon bones on the adult could use a little more length. When I think of thoroughbreds I see long legs in my head.
The foal appears to be camped under himself in the back end. I would scoot the positioning of the back legs backwards from the hocks down. Also, I don't love the length and shape of his neck. It's too short and too thin for me in proportion with the rest of his body. Though foals in general tend to have awkward proportions, so this may be an accurate representation despite my dislike.Ramshorn Ranch

@RamshornSportHorses, more like this? I really need work on my art skill more lol and thank you for agreeing with me, think most horses have a more up right neck set myself. I think they are breeding horses with neck sets too low and that is especially true in the case of my beloved American Quarter horse. Wild horses would have a hard time keeping an eye out for danger with some of the low neck set I have seen lately in real life.Blue Grass id#: 182429

RKO, yes that's along the lines of what I was thinking with the changes I suggested for the adult.Ramshorn Ranch

I really like RKOs redraws. I agree with all the things said about the neck and leg length. And definitely agree with lengthening the foals neck.DarkPhoenix #15470 (she/her) ~ Premium Upgrade

I think the RKO redraw looks awesome for both the adult and foal images!

I think the trend of these edits is moving strongly towards a warmblood and away from what a TB looks like. We have the Dutch Warmblood coming up on our to-do list. I think that will be a breed more suited to these high-set more crested necks for people who like that look.Need to contact me? Read this first.
