I have been creating like mad and curating my show ponies with several going to auction on Sunday. I just looked at points held and realized that as of now, I only need 801pts before I am over 20k points! :O

Is it just me that close to the pointed create cutoff or is there anyone else who is near to or past the cut off point for pointed creates?

How many of you are trying to establish your show herds first, breeding herds first, or building both at the same time?

I’m going to focus on a show herd first, and then I’ll focus on finding breeding stock. I also haven’t completely decided what I want to breed so there’s no point doing that first when I’m not decided.

Currently I’m just working to get a large reserve of hjbs for when I reach the pointed create cut off I’ll be able to buy them from others. I’m creating, breading, then auctioning everything; I get the hbs back I spent on creating the mares, and stud, plus a $1,500 profit per foal. When I’m able to use a pasture it will be a $2,000 profit per foal. I’ll probably do this for awhile until I’ve been able to purchase a BA upgrade, and some extra barns, and still have enough to start my breeding project.

I'm spending most of my time right now creating yearling colts to find the perfect future herd sire/GMT project, so if some of them end up with nice points I'll keep them too. Once I find the perfect colt I'll start creating fillies. So I might have a small breeding herd but might not start breeding in earnest until June when they age up. My goal is to have a well-pointed breeding herd because I have so few stalls. Efficiency is key!

I lucked out with a create and got this mare in addition to my newsletter horse. So I'm getting up there in points, mostly on a show herd for now though.

Wow, that's a good horse, @DunDreams! The highest I've gotten so far without the newsletters is a 70 daily.

DiamondBlaxk- you brought up something I had completely forgotten to consider- using the auction ponies to create foals sold back for profit. Thank you for the reminder and definitely something worth doing for players who are struggling with cash flow! Hopefully other players will see this and use this awesome advice as well!

This was my newsletter mare, I love the dark bay/chestnut colored horses. I felt lucky when I got her :D

@TheBlueMoors the most important thing in the breed/auction strategy is not doing any testing before breeding, and only doing BA afterwards, otherwise you won’t make a profit at all, or be able to breed every mare.

I hope it helps some people out, I don’t remember who first gave me the advice, but it has been the most effective strategy for starting out I’ve tried.

I am building a breeding herd, on a small scale. Everyone I generate that fails BA or my breeding goals gets snipped for show. But I like having pointed breeders in pasture, earning hb and breeding bonus at the same time. :D
