Need your feedback on this Suffolk Punch outline

Thank the Jenx, we have another one! Let us know what you think about Suffolk Punch. We tried to go for a Percheron originally but decided we needed a proper extra thicc look and the Suffolk Punch was more what we were looking for.

Things of note: The muscle lines are just there as reference notes and will be changing.

ETA: This horse is not standing neutral it is our first horse who is bridled up. Hence the head. The future tack items like harnesses will not look right otherwise. This breed is also shown in a surcingle not with a neutral head posture.

  • I agree with the change!
  • For me, his shoulders look small in proportion to his hind end and middle. I am not an expert on suffolk punch conformation, but in general I look for equal third proportions for hind end, middle, and front end. The neck looks properly thick though, so maybe if the back end of the shoulder was scooted back so it lined up better with the withers?
Forgive my very rough 2 minutes in paint:

This fellow has a bigger front end like what I am thinking:

That is just the reference line not the actual muscle position for the final horse, but I can see how it really looks like it at the moment.

  • The head is collected but the back legs aren’t. They are stretched like for halter showing. I think that’s why it looks too long in the back. Rider needs to hurry those hind legs along and get ‘em under to be fully collected.

    Still pretty.
  • I know nothing about horse conformation, but if this is true and Suffolks come into the game, I'll die an ecstatic woman! They are my favorite breed! :O

  • Yes, because this horse is posed for halter showing. :)

  • Wouldn’t the head be pointed out and the nose more up then? If we were in bridle or pulling, the legs would be in.

I don’t exactly know how to word what I’m saying but my feedback is the head and back hoofs are in different shows. I agree with Ram above.

This one is my favorite so far.
  • I think it looks great! Although my perusal of Google suggests that the head should be more triangular.

Hopefully this shows the nice reference photo I found.
  • You tried to use a url as an image. Here is the link :)

Also, that image you used is the exact horse head we used as the reference. The head you are seeing is the same head you suggested. :)) :))

Ironicly the people saying his head is wrong for his legs or at the wrong angle. That IS his head set, that IS his leg set. :)) I think people are just not used to seeing this breed.

  • I think that the head placement depends on how old the picture was taken. I went farther down the pintest page and seen that there head hold for halter had the nose a little more out and not at such a straight tight neck profile. This head hold reminds me of the old driving horses that had the draw reins so tight that they couldn't even move their head.
But this is just my opinion as I love draft horses just as much as light horses.
