Feedback wanted on an RAoG change
  • I am considering changing it on Random Acts of Giving so that it tells you who sent you what. We got a lot of feedback from recipients that they found it being all anonymous made it difficult to keep track of what was going on, difficult to give proper thanks, etc.

I considered having being anonymous be optional but I decided it really needs to be all or nothing because I feel having it be an option would put strange pressures and precedents on people and make things stressful.

I am interested in your feelings on this.

What about just a list of anyone who sent you anything at the end of the exchange with no info on who sent what?

I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

  • I would participate less in the RoAG if it wasn’t run like main exchange. Lovebombing is a complicated social thing and I don’t want to send a bunch of stuff to one person and have that be weird. I pick a person and gift them a whole bunch of stuff at once, then move to the next. When they find out all the gifts at once, it isn’t like “this one person did all of this on Tuesday at 8am and now I’ll be all up in their DMs for the next few days.”

I understand the confusion and the difficulty saying thank you to so many different gifters. I do wish there was a full lists of gifts and givers, rather than the conversation lists that exist now. Going through the individual gifts to look at the conversation is difficult. But I’d rather be anonymous than get early thank yous. I darn well know it’s hard to find who sent you 100k randomly one morning— I think that’s great. Our community, rather than any single person, is amazing.

  • I like the list at the end; that seems like the best of both worlds.
  • I like the list at the end of gifters without saying what was sent by whom. A gift given isn't any less of a gift as another.

  • I’ve been thinking about this all day. I think the RAoG feels different than my giftees (and gifter). I spend so much time in their stables and learn what they like. To this day, when I see a big hunky draft, I think of Vorpal Alice. I want a thank you and to give a thank you there.

RAoG feels different. It isn’t a commitment. It’s like the difference between buying something off a church’s kids Christmas wishlist verses hunting down the perfect gift for my bestie. I’m much more invested with one than the other.

I also don’t feel like I’m trying to “buy” friendship or good will in the gift exchange. They signed up. They are giving as well. But in the RAoG I’m basically drive by love bombing and that feels weird somehow. I can’t put my finger on whatever it is, but I know telling RAoG that I was the gifter every time I gifted would get into my head.

I do think the one list at the end would be great. I don’t mind someone knowing I gave them things— but knowing I gave them things every 20 minutes for four hours seems uncomfortable. Idk.
  • I also like the idea of having a list of givers to thank after the exchange is over. I tend to feel strange being given gifts and having no one to thank for them.
  • As a gifter I did like being able to cycle through everyone and make sure I gifted something to each person! But that wouldn't necessarily need to be a list of gifts, if there was just some indication if I had gifted to them that would be perfect!
