Advice/discussion: Switching Futurity Stallions
-
Hi, all. I have a new era 0 stallion who is superior to my current era 0 stallion. My current era 0 stallion is well placed on the futurity leaderboards. Since this is calculated at all foals under five, there will be a lag when any new stallion enters (or one leaves.) I’m not sure it’s worth switching studs in the futurity, even to “upgrade” the quality of the stallion.
What do you think? I’d really like to see others logic on this. The two horses are below.
Current awesome era 0 stud:
Summers Stunning Star
Turning 3 tomorrow awesome era 0 stud:
Summers Wicked Spree
(First is a star stud with a 12ish pt. Second is a two star stud who is maxed and boosted with a 13.4 pt. Genes are great on both. The first is home bred and the second is a futurity foal. I like them both.)
Do I switch? Do I run both? Do I stay with the first stud for futuries? Advice or thoughts welcomed and encouraged.

I would run both til the upcomer's first futurity foals come of age if that's the foal lag you are speaking of.
-
It absolutely is. I’m also concerned about making sure the people holding my foals get maximum value, so switching seems complicated.
-
Only the top 10 foals count, so normally it should only be the 10 oldest foals that have any impact on the standing.Sorry not currently taking any request for egg/straw/horse sales. Everything I have for sale is already listed.
-
I'd say offer both; SSS being a sport pony makes him unique too!

Personally, I have been switching my futurity lineup every month. There's a few stallions that have been offered multiple seasons but many for only one season.
My thought is that the studs with a full set of 10 5 year olds earning points will have the advantage each month. So you're primarily competing against other stallions and foals that were bred the exact same month.
So if you switched this month, your older stud would have the advantage for leaderboard contention for June, July and August, but your new fellow would have a fair chance starting in September whether you kept the old stallion in the rotation or not.

Correct. Since only the top 10 foals count, there is no negative impact on switching studs.Need to contact me? Read this first.
