Very inconsistent, high PT?
  • I'm testing some pasture foals, and this blue papered filly was labeled "very inconsistent". I have only had that with low pt foals, but she's over 11. Anyone else have a foal like that?

  • Her PT would be way higher if she was consistent.

  • My guess is that both of her parents are trending towards the bad end of being inconsistent as well then. I think consistency has some heritability to it. Consistent horses are more likely to have consistent babies etc.

Personally I require most of my breeding stock to be consistent to avoid the PT drag down of inconsistent babies. I do still get some inconsistent babies but hopefully less than I would otherwise.

  • Yes, it is inheritable.
