So what's some contest ideas that people would be interested in seeing then?

I don't mind running a contest, but I do not have the cash flow for big prizes.

Here's an idea. Something similar to the pot of gold contest, but folks tack up a horse of their choice and other players vote.

Another one that might be kind of fun is a "sexiest stud alive" contest. My thought would be that the first phase would have players nominate stallions for the contest, BUT you can only nominate a stallion owned by another player. Then in the second phase players would vote for their favorite stallion. Prizes awarded to the winners. It could be divided into divisions as well if there's enough interest. Like a warmblood/sport pony winner, a cob/draft winner, a riding horse/riding pony winner; or a fantasy category and non-fantasy category.

On second thought, maybe just one winner for the Sexiest Stud Alive contest, with some runners up who get prizes as well.

Seriously, I would run this if we had some willing prize donors.

Um, let's not sexually objectify the horses, please. ;) Use any term but "sexiest." It's a bit too close to implying some very illegal stuff. :D

Genetic guessing contests are always fun. :D
Have a few foals without color testing done, then have contestants give you the possible combos for it.
I've seen it done on Bluegrass. I'll see if I can find the post.

I think (especially here on Mesa), tacking up horses with a certain theme can always get the creative juices flowing and more participants.

Ladyhawke, I wondered about Studliest Stallion Alive, lol. It's all in good fun, so we could probably swing it even if it sounds a little silly.

I do like the Tack Contest idea also. I agree with TripleG that it would be well supported for participation.

Honestly, I would do whatever the masses want to support. I'm not opposed to doing both ideas, or an entirely different idea either!

12 months in the yr, 12 contests.
Looks like "Guess the Genes" "Studliest Stud" "Pot of Gold" with one down "Dress/Tack Up" :) are all really good ones! So we just need 8 more...and I'd vote to do non fantasy and fantasy for all

I love this! If there’s one request that I think would make the contests more fair is to have an entry phase and a voting phase since I feel like naturally the first entries will get the most votes if you can enter and vote at the same time. For example, entries will only be accepted April 1-20. Voting is from April 21-30

I really like the idea of picking someone else’s horse for the studliest stud contest - we could do a similar one for the ladies.. “Beautiful Broodmares” or “Merry Mares” idk haha

Another possibility for a contest is finding shapes in horse coats. Just for example, one of my foals this month has a marking that looks like a dinosaur. Doesn’t have to be your own horse either to make hunting for shapes more fun.

I don't think you need to decide them all right now. Just do a vote maybe for the first two to get April and May going and just revisit this thread occasionally to brainstorm new ideas! :)

I don't think you need 10 entirely fresh contest ideas. A similar contest could be run twice a year and would still be fun, but less work overall on the contest runners.

So for example:

Studliest Stallion could run May and November
HAJ Celebrations: (no contests) June and December
Genetic Guessing Contest: July and January
Tack Up Contest: August and February
Pot of Gold: March, maybe a similar contest concept voting on a favorite show pony could be done in September.
Marking Scavenger Hunt (Miss Kitty's suggestion): April and October

One other thought. Running a contest each month might end up being a little excessive on the big donors that are so generous to offer prizes all the time. Prize expectations might need to be adjusted slightly downward.

I'll kick it off and offer to run some sort of Marking Scavenger Hunt for the remainder of this month, and then Studliest Stallion next month.

After that we'll have June celebrations to worry about, so that would cover us until July.

Thanks for reviving this discussion. It was from back in April, but lots of good and fun ideas! We haven't made this "a thing" but players are running different events in this forum section. It's been awesome to see the different "activities" If you want to do something simple make a post :) If you want help, let us know! And a lot of times players end up randomly donating to the prize pools too.
