Creating a Real Life Breed on H&J
  • I’m sure it’s probably been done on the other servers, but has anyone here tried to create a real life breed? I was thinking it might be fun to try to create a herd of Fjords or something similar.

I’m not super knowledgeable on Fjords but have always thought they are so cute! Based on their appearance, I think I would need hom dun, pangare, & wild bay with no white markings. I don’t believe I can recreate the primitive mane/tail but maybe silver and flaxen would have the same visual effect (even though it isn’t genetically accurate).

Anyway just wanted to share haha
  • I know I saw a message in one of the chats that a player was trying to recreate horses with some of those primitive marking patterns like Dun and Pangere. I can't remember who it was though.

  • How interesting- maybe I’ll check out the forest and bluegrass forums!
  • I think @kentucky241 did fjords and @tarma was doing przewalskis at some point! Would love to hear updates from both projects! :)
  • Oh very cool! I will check out their barns :)
  • I'm working on przewalskis AND tarpans. Zero actual luck on the second, but I'm making a small amount of progress on the first..
  • We must see some ponies!

  • I’m selling embryos for pangare plus, which is what I think you want. (And since miss Kitty was such a good gifter to me I sent her one for free.)

  • Awww thank you Summer! Tarma, I would love to work with you on your project since Fjords are so similar :)
  • If they're cobs, I'll buy a couple @SummerMonarch.

@MissKitty I'm definitely willing to help out. And mixing lines will be fun, especially with the new breed names mechanic that we're getting soon.

  • I'm trying to replicate the color of the Kiang wild donkey... Pangare, DP, and Agouti Promoter, and actually Silver is giving the bay a nice orange color but then it makes the manes/tales light. Dun washes everything out so I don't think I can get the primitive markings... possible nd1 but not sure what they will look like.
  • Efalater, will DFP2 not give you the primitive markings you are looking for? That should give you big shoulder stripes, etc. Or are you saying you don't want dun in the line, so DFP2 would not work for you?

  • it looks like dfp2 gives the washed out, lightened color like D dun does. i'd like the dorsal stripe and modest shoulder barring of D dun without the dilution so that a vibrant red-orange base color would show up. i think the shoulder stripe of dfp2 is a bit extreme as well
  • The game really was not created to imitate donkies. :)

  • Haha wow this is such perfect timing with the new breed feature!
  • Keep in mind you are not allowed to use the name of real breeds. I don't think it is fair for one person to get THE Arabian or THE Quarter Horse. Just because they came to the game earlier than someone else.

  • Oh no absolutely that makes sense. I’m going to start thinking of a new name that would fit this pony :)
  • Sure, I don't expect to get 100% likeness, that's just what piqued my interest as I decided what to work on

  • Just some thoughts. nd1, particularly in it's homozygous form gives a darker topline, but not as much washout. Combined with Pangare or Pangare plus you could maybe get a dramatic pale underbelly to dark topline effect. It's pretty subtle and the darkening does extend down into the shoulders. I notice it easiest on chestnut or light bay horses.
