Lethal White and w1/w2 question
  • I’ve been working on understanding lethal white for a bit now, both in real life and in the game. I’ve been breeding W1/W1 for some time— a highly unlikely combo that one should never try for in real life.

Yule Log Ashes says that W1/W2 is impossible, but on the fancy chart in the faq, W1/W2 is less impossible than W1. I’m confused about how lethal is lethal in this combo. I know the game can make a w1/w2 foal, but can real life?

I’m also unsure about the difference between leathal white through the kit genes verses lethal white from frame. It seems like two different ways to kill horses with white but is functionally similar. I’m also curious about that if anyone knows anything.

    Happy holidays, all.

  • You can't use the game to predict real-life breeding. Our whites don't all line up with real-life ones and real life is far more complicated. :)

Lethal white overo is just for frame. Excessive white can from a large number of different gene combos. THis wiki page has the lethality chart.

    Here is the lethality chart

W1 and W2 together is highly lethal but not always, if the overall white factor is very low.

  • I’m starting on w1/w10 to check off all the red boxes on the above chart. To clarify, o/o is always fatal in this game, no matter the white factor? And while we call the kit lethal white and overo lethal white both lethal white, they, in fact, are different?

Thank you! (I also bred my own Yule log ashes today! Yay impossible things!)

  • There is a gene called "Overo Lethal White" that is the only time I personally use the term "lethal white".

  • What do you call when kit horses die from a large white factor/kit genes?
  • The game just calls it excessive white. In real life, those foals don't tend to make it to a live birth. Most just end up as slipped pregnancies. OLW is notable because it results in a living foal that dies.
