Guess those Genetics!
  • Oh no! Bad pony! Drobny escaped from his pasture and snuck into 3 mares' stalls and now I have 3 foals whose colors I don't know! Can you help me figure them out?

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to examine each foal and using your knowledge of the stud and mare's color genomes, come up with your guesses at each foal's genome and the color name! Points will be accumulated and the first 2 place winners will get some fabulous prizes! (If other donors want to contribute any prizes, please direct message me!)

(hint hint: Drobny and all 3 of his girls are chimeric- that does not mean the foals themselves are necessarily chimeric though!)

Here's how the scoring will work!
Color name: 1 point for each correct name and 1 point extra if it is in the correct order as written on HaJ ***there are NO penalties for incorrect guesses
ex: a gray blue roan- if you type blue roan gray, you will get 3 points for having all three names but only 2 points extra because gray is not in the correct order for a total of 5 points out of 6 possible points.

Genome: 2 points for each correct set of alleles in correct order, 1 point for correct set of alleles but incorrect order, 1/2 point for 1 correct allele but missing other one (i.e. foal has 2 copies of flaxen but you wrote f/_) Pay attention carefully though- this is where you can lose points! If you miss a set of alleles the foal has (i.e. foal has 2 copy of flaxen and you didn't write at least f/_), 1/2 a point will be subtracted for every set of alleles the foal has but was not written in your guess.

White factor will be used as a tiebreaker so please include them in all your guesses!

This is an example of what I am looking for:

    Name: TheBlueMoors
    ID: 78

Foal 1: Gray Silver Amber Cream Champagne Roan Dun Splash Tobiano Frame Appaloosa Rabicano
    genome: e/E a/A -/Cr -/D -/G -/Z -/Ch f/f -/Sty p/- R/TO -/SW1 -/LP O/- -/RB white factor: minimal

    Foal 2: name here
    genome: sequence here

    Foal 3: name here
    genome: sequence here

This contest will close to new entries August 14th and the winners will be announced August 16th.

And for the prizes! MASSIVE thanks to ConfluenceRanch for their generous donations!

    1st place:
    *5 (actual) GMT tokens
    * 2 alleles of the new Sun Runes gene
    *500,000 HBs
*10 straws from naughty pony Drobny (if not having licenses, we can arrange to sub another boy)
*Choice of 2 of these foals, either intact and maximized to their best, or as a show pony
    *Bragging rights :)

    2nd place:
    *3 (actual) GMT tokens
*2 alleles of the new Star Runs gene
    250,000hbs
5 straws from naughty pony Drobny (if not having licenses, we can arrange to sub another boy)
choice of 1 of these foals as a show pony or intact (with no guarantee on SBA/BA)

3rd place: 3 GMT tokens and a 30 horse pasture

4th place: 1 GMT token and a 10 horse pasture

Every participant will also receive 10,000Hbs regardless of if they win or not so shoot these guesses! Any questions, please shout them out!

Again, if you want to contribute to prizes and participate in the merry fun, just shoot me a DM!

Good luck to everyone and I hope yall enjoy!

  • Great question @Tarma! I did forget to put that in my initial post that white factor will be considered and used as a tie breaker so yes please put that in your post. I would look at examples of other horses and their progeny to see how it all compares when you are deciding what to put down!

  • Morning/afternoon folks! I have sent all entries their 10,000 hbs just for entering the contest! @StoneyRidge, your account is less than 2 months so I have added you to my chatroom. Can you place a horse up for 10,000hbs and I'll snag him/her!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PARTICIPATING!

There is still time to enter! If you are unsure how to read the genomes or just don't know what is being asked, please contact me either here or privately and I will be so thrilled to help you with different examples!

Also bumping this post up :)

  • Thank you everyone for entering this contest and to ConfluenceRanch for the fabulous donations! I hope everyone has enjoyed doing this contest and learned some things.

So everyone is on the same page- I individually scored every entry per category to generate 3 scores (1 per foal) using the scoring system described in the original post. Those scores were then added together for an overall score to decide the placings. I had an anonymous impartial person review the scoring separate from mine to make sure the numbers matched up before I allocated placings.

Alright folks, without further ado, the results we all have been waiting for!

1st place: Arktis with 105.5 points
2nd place: RamshornSportPonies with 102 pts
    3rd place: Kamcdaniel13 with 97.5 pts
4th place: SummerMonarch with 96 points

As you can see the scores were pretty close!

Foal one: silver bay roan onyx rabicano with genome Ee AA _/Prl Onx/_ Z/_ TE1/_ A_ DP/_ Sty_ -/f PP _/R PATN1PATN1 Rb/_ gp/_ with medium white factor.
-->There was a max of 40 points able to be scored in this category
-->the highest score received in this category was 37

Foal two: painted chestnut sabino tobiano appaloosa with genome ee aa Pr/_ Z/_ DP/_ -/sty f/_ pP PBP/ ISP/ To/SB1 _/LP _/PATN1 with minimal white factor
-->there was a max of 36 points able to be scored in this category
-->the highest score received in this category was 36 (perfect score!)

Foal three: silver bay onyx appaloosa rabicano with genome EE AA Onx/_ Z/_ TE1/_ A/_ DP/_ stysty f/_ Pp _/LP PATN1PATN1 Rb/_ gp/_ with none white factor
--> max of 38 points able to be scored in this category
-->the highest score received in this category was 34.5

Congratulations and well done to everyone who participated! I will be in contact with the top 4 placements via PM to arrange prizes.

If you want to know your score and it was not listed and/or how you did in every category, please reach out to me!

Again, a HUGE thank you to everyone entered the contest! Please keep an eye out for other upcoming contests I have planned!

  • Congrats to the winners!
Can see I totally forgot some genes to place. :-\"
I need to learn to review my work after late night attempts.
  • That was a really fun contest! Thank you @TheBlueMoors!
I had no idea Pangare had a P option (was only aware of p, + and -) and also apparently didn't know white factor was not genetic so now I'll have another thing to factor into my own breeding program. :-B
  • White factor is sort of hereditary. I can’t figure it out exactly though.

(Also I liked this. Thank you for hosting, Blue!)
  • Thank you so much for planning and hosting the contest, Blue - I had a lot of fun! :)
