Criteria for keeping a horse?
-
How do you guys decide how valuable a horse is and whether you should sell it or not?
Is there a sure way to decide based on their PT or points or breeding inspection? I've given some to auction if they have a low PT score, ugly, and are yellow/C, but I feel like I'm doing it blindly. -
I keep what I'm breeding for or what I, personally, see as very pretty. What you keep really depends on what you want.

Hi Doehour! Welcome to Hunt & Jump. There is no sure way to know how much a horse is worth. One more way this game is like real life (like how the genetics work). You can try doing a search for horses with similar characteristics that are for sale and see what they are going for.

I am also finding it really difficult to know what price to set my horses for sale at, especially second generation foals and youngsters.
But for Foundations, it costs 4,100 hbs to create and fully paper an intact mare or stallion, so I start from there. A little extra for intact horses, adding on a bit more if they have good papers and / or a nice colour.
If they are pointed then I set them at about 1/2 their lifetime pay out, plus a bit more for higher papers and any Rank Special's, especially ones that have Chimerism.
I'm new to the game but I have sold a few pointed and un-pointed creates and this system has mostly worked for me.
If anyone could share the 'rules' or guidelines they use for pricing lined horses I would be most appreciative!**Wensum Valley Ponies**

My biggest piece of advice for a younger player would be to increase the price of your horses, dramatically. Start high and the market will tell you if you are too high. Then go down by 1/4, wash, repeat.
I don’t recommend selling through the auction for pointed creates or special things. Direct sale will get you more money. Flip side, always search the auction. Great deals exist there.Thanked by 1WensumValleyPonies
