Help with culling!! (They're all so shinyyyyy....)
-
I think the title says it all. HOW DO YOU CULL?
I obviously only keep superior foals but I'm talking about geldings and spays here. I've culled everything under 10.60PT but are there anything else you can do?? Higher PT score or? -
Don't get rid of gelds/spays. They will bring in points for you for some 'years' to come. Only consider getting rid of them once they level off. Why get rid of less than 10.6? A PT of 9.9 is more or less perfect for making steady progress up the classes. Only get rid of your show horses if you really need to make room for something else.
Hope that helps (although it probably doesn't!)

I have two things that I do.
If it is a young horse, I go through their show records. If I see a zero or a negative number anywhere in their scores, I cull them.
With older horses that could bring me a good chunk of cash if I auction them, I once again look at their show records. If I can do a full single scroll without seeing a minimum of one first place, I cull them.
I do this at the end of each month before rollover to next season. -
I know people caution you to not get rid of your gelded and spayed show foals but since this is such a new server and because it will take months for lined foals to gain points, your show bonus might actually grow faster if you just get rid of them all and replace them with pointed foundations from the auction and sales board. That's my plan anyways, but if you enjoy having shiny show ponies, that's okay too.ID #242

I think the logic with culling lower PT scores is that with this being a new server, most people don't have a lot of barn space. Although a 9.9 might move up the ranks and earn hbs, if your barns are full you'll have to make these kinds of choices. I've been doing the same thing simply because I can't house them all.

I know on bluegrass I culled mine in stages. I cut it at 10 until I was getting a lot of babies over 10.5, then I started culling them at 10.5. On here, I have no idea what I'm doing yet, lol. Probably something like that. I also upgraded to premium and every baby is going to go through sba, no matter how painful it might be. I do know I have a baby hoarding problem, though.

Don't worry, it's ok to hoard fake animals. It's only a problem if they're actually alive :DThanked by 1Egret
