Image Generator Updates - Grey et all.
-
My plan the past week or so was to work on the tack editor but a series of technical issues meant I had to put that on hold. Because of that, I had some surprise free programming time and I decided to use it by working on gray generation. While working on gray I also saw a tweak that I felt made every horse in the game look better.
How does gray work now?
Gray foals are now born with hyperpigmentation and gray googles. Horses progressively dapple and gray out as they age with hom. gray horses aging a bit faster than het. gray horses.
Why are all the dapples the same? What about fleabites and blood marks?
I only had enough time to get gray generation to this point. Gray is a HUGE process, and like when we did appy generation I am going to have to put updates for it out in waves as I have time to work on it. Right now the dapples are static and the same for every horse, fleabites and blood marks are also not working yet. I wanted to get something presentable out now, it is already way better than what we had, but it is still a long way off from what I would like to see it end up as. I would love to see gray finished before the end of 2022.
What is the "every horse" tweak?
Saturation has been slightly bumped to help balance out the recent yellow bump we had. I feel this makes the horse images more engaging and pleasing to look at. It also helps make pangare and other lightning markings more effective looking. I did my best to test this but, sometimes, until you put it out in the wild it can be hard to get a good feel for a low-level system-wide change.
Reroll currently required.
Both the new gray update and the bumped saturation require a full reroll, not just an image refresh to show. There is no way to make these changes show up without fully regenerating a horse's texture map. If you just refresh grays right now you will see a change but it will be a hybrid between the old images and the new ones. I am open to suggestions on the issue of how or if we should force update to the new gray system. Happy to hear what people think is the best way to go about it. (We will not be force updating every horse in the game. That is totally unnecessary.)
Feedback?
Finally, if you have feedback either on the gray update or the saturation update let me know! I am very open to what you all have to say on the issue.Important note that gray does NOT work in the advanced tack editor yet. I will be adding that when I do the next round of updates on it.

All my nicely patterned chimera ones ended up within the regular striping. But, oh boy, did the "plain" ones end up gorgeous. Will we have to reroll them every month to see the fading?
-
No, once they have been rerolled they will age up without any need for further rerolling. Rerolls change your markings so ya they will, unfortunately, change chimera patterning as well.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I rerolled only two lol now I have a white 7 yr old mare and a plain bay foal. Hopefully new created grays will be more to my liking :) Other players grays have looked amazing.

I usually skip over the gray herd helpers but I wanted to test this out and I'm so happy I did! How cool is she?!

All gray horses in the game age 7 and younger have been tossed in the image generation queue to update to the new gray generation. (See the forum for more info). Horses 8 and over must be manually rerolled.
The estimated time to generate all images is 3 hours.Need to contact me? Read this first.

(Okay, so this is my first time attempting to link pictures)
I love the update and I think the transformation for these two is especially cool!

*Edit*
I'm grateful the color is more realistic however almost all my grays are under 7 (I'm newer to the game) and for the most part I preferred my grays before the update. I have a couple brindle grays that almost appeared silver, which I liked.
Horses from previous comment, the foal will gray out and it'll be interesting to watch, and this is the mare
RS Lady Rowena of Tremain
I wasn't a big fan of gray beforehand because it wasn't diverse enough. I do like the update other than most of the gray will "turn white" (also not a preference of mine). It seems before horses are 10? I've worked with grays who barely started graying out at 15 years of age (I know more updates are coming).
I think so far Ammit has done an amazing job with the grays! The update is over all better as there is diversity within it. I'm looking forward for more updates, as is manageable in due time.
And finally, Ammit, I apologize if I came across as complaining, impatient, or ungrateful. Not my intention in any way. I appreciate all you do so I can really enjoy this game, and the care you show and give to all players! -
The grays actually turned white before as well, I think it just took longer.

Thank you so much everyone for your extensive feedback. It was incredibly helpful.
We have pushed out updates to gray, single cream and P+. To see updates to everything except gray you can use the new Regenerate image button on your horses' control panel. There is no charge for this and markings will not change.
The gray aging rate has been cut in half. This can be seen with just a refresh of the image.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I like the 3 new image options in the control panel. I'm also on with grays turning white but I appreciate the slower aging so we have more time to enjoy them and watch them change. Thanks!Thanked by 1Ammit

@Ammit I just noticed that the images for grey in the genetics guide are from the old grey not the updated version.
