Chimeras?
-
There was another chimera discussion, but it didn’t quite answer my question..
I have a few horses with Chimera genes and a 50% chance of passing them on. I’ve bred said horses together a handful of times, but I’m not sure if it’s ever passed on. What does Chimera look like? Am I not seeing it/successfully breeding it because I need a license? Is it just a genotype (not visible)? Is chimera just the brindle I’m seeing? Here are the horses I’ve bred-
(All mentioned foals I’ve produced are sired by Chimeras Shadow)

KL Chilly ChimeraH
KL Shes Expensive

I’d appreciate an explanation!! Thank you

It means there 50% of passing on either DNA set.
Not the chance of a chimera unfortunately. You could go all season without seeing a single brindle foal from a cross. It's pretty random.
What you see are in fact Chimeras/Brindles. You can also get Brindles from Homozygous DFP1 horses (not 100%) -
Yep. Breeding a chimera with a chimera gives you about a 1% chance of getting a chimeric foal.
Chimeras happen when two embryos fuse together during pregnancy, which is very rare, so breeding a chimeric foal is difficult to do for that reason :) -
Oh chimera breeding chances are far from 50% I focus mainly on breeding for chimerism and it's a toughy. Here is a google doc I started to track it. As you'll see, some seasons I get 7, some seasons I get 3.

“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.” -Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Chapter 6 -
The doc was very helpful! Thanks to everyone for replying. That cleared up my confusion!Thanked by 1Vorpalalice
