Prices and Value

Please help me understand selling prices/value.
Im so confused on how to know fair prices on:
Horse without a lifetime payout (no points)
Horse with low points (no lifetime payout)
Cost for modified horse
3,4,5 (so on) generation horse
Rank Special
Im fairly new and seeing horses or foals for 50k, 100k, and 500k confuses me. And players also sell seemingly similar horses or foals at create price.
I have been searching through horses, a bit, and I hope someone(s) can help me better understand.

Pricing horses is something EVERYONE has problems with! Basically, a new create Foundation horse is worth 2500 HBs. The more fancy stuff that gets added (less common colors or patterns, exceptional abilities, etc) the higher the price goes. Rank Specials are the 'peak' of the Foundation horses and the prices vary with what is newest, and/or most rare.
Lined horses prices reflect the breeders investment in their stock and can run the gamut for sales price.

Hi LizzysRanch and welcome!
So pricing is pretty subjective and everyone might (and does LOL) value their horses differently.
There are some things you can take into consideration when deciding what to sell a horse for: age, points, rarity of HH (if foundation), PT, and even the age of the server you are on plus a myriad of other factors.
Base price should always be at minimum 2500hb as that is how much it costs to create a foundation horse and what you will receive at a minimum from the auction if less than 10 years of age.
Common herd helpers are probably not worth much more than that unless they are high pointed (300pt+). You would be better off creating foundation mares, breed them in pasture, then toss that lot in auction to make a profit rather than trying to direct sell all of them to players.
Rarer HHs such as Bronze Age, Accomplishment and so on can command higher prices. This is influenced in part by age of server. This is a younger server thus not many players would be established with high enough daily income to justify buying a horse priced at 500k versus one maaaaybe priced at 100k. You'll be more likely to see those priced between 35k to 75k is when I see them most often move on quickly. The RARE once in a blue moon HHs (Nanotech is something that comes to mind) can go even higher since they can be 1 of a kind for a few years and those would be justified in a higher price tag but again, keeping in mind the server you are on. What might be worth 1 million or more on the blue and green servers might only be able to be sold at 500k here but I've picked up 2 Nanotechs from auction for 2750 each so there is that.
By modified horses, I am guessing you are referring to horses who have had GMT work done- those, again, can be very subjective but each GMT token is worth 10 IVs. 1 IV is 12500hbs so it costs 125000hb for 1 gmt token.
If you put DP on a horse, it is 5 GMT tokens per allele so if just putting one copy on, that is 625k right there you put in a horse. I'm going to be blunt here- if you put an exceptionally perfect horse up with DP on it for 625k, I'll either trawl the auction for an exceptionally perfect base with DP already on it or just put it on myself on a horse of my own breeding so I can clone it later if needed. Selling GMT'ed horses should be considered carefully as you are not likely to get the full value of your investment back, at least on this server at this point in time. Again, a very very subjective area and honestly I have seen some really nice horses go for very decent prices and some that couldn't be given away.
Lined horses are rather subjective as well. Very high quality bootstrap studs seem to set the premium prices but as it only takes 1 stud to service 50 mares, the demand is not necessarily going to be there 100% of the time. You could spend time building up very good quality lines now limited outside breeding stock and later generate that demand for your breeding stock because they are a stamp of your program and quality but again, people breed for different things- some go for the highest possible PT, some go for uniform quality of herds (i.e. all sable champagnes with satin), some might do a little of everything.
So bottom line is... play the game your own way and price your stock how you think they are valued. If someone wants them, they;ll buy them or you can play with the pricing a little and see what prices seem attractive to potential buyers while also making it worthwhile for yourself. This game is designed so you make your own choices on what will make you happy! No right or wrong way.
Hope this helps!TheBlueMoors ID 78
