Need GMing help
-
I'm totally ignorant when it comes to color genetics....I might know some basics, but that's it. I added KP2 to this guy, but doesn't have the cool markings as the example horse shown. What am I missing...I think I know, But need confirmation. TIA

I believe you need two kits genes (SB1/SB1) for it to show. Not 100% on that though..

Welcome to the world of GMing! There are a lot of different gene interactions to consider here. Unlike KP, KP2 only requires one copy of a kit gene and one copy in of KP2 to show (which you have done correctly!) However it is a very subtle change that is difficult to see on chimeras. Sabino is also a gene with very minimal white and requires a larger white factor to show more prominently.
Here is an example of two non-chimera sabinos to show you what you could expect to see. Both have a large white factor.
This one does not have KP2

As you can see, KP2 just results in a fuzzy look along the edges of the sabino. Your horse is showing the same thing, it is just hard to see with chimerism.
The sample horse on the upgrade page also has kit m which causes those white spots. Kit M is one of my favorite genes to use with KP2 but it's also pretty expensive.
On your horse I would highly suggest adding a second kit gene on both strands (tobiano would be excellent choice that it's much cheaper than kit m) to guarantee that every foal will get one kit gene and one KP2 gene. That will also result in more white and a more prominent interaction.
You could also try rerolling your horses picture to get a patchy looking chimera like this
VXP sa Tumultuous Times
The last thing to consider is the white factor on your primary strand which you could try increasing, but I would do that as a last step after adding another kit gene or rerolling a few times.

Ahhh, gotcha! Yes, I was thinking adding another SB1, but with LadyhawkwStables explanation, kit M explains a lot! I love kit M, but ya, it's expensive! Never thought about rerolling or increasing the white factor. I've got got a lot of ponies to sell in order to play around with this guys colors. Thank you! Makes sense :)

Thanks for this explanation Ladyhawke! I didn’t know how all those genes/factors interactedID:3258
