Hunt & Jump Talented Tutors Competition!
-
Everyone learns differently. The more ways something can be explained, the better!
In your own words, explain how something on the game works. It could be a process (How to buy a pasture, how to sign up for the newsletter, how does the Welcome Pack work, etc.) or a purchasable item (what is a GMT, what is a Boost, why do barns cost what they do, etc.), or just a basic tenant of the game (how show points determine your show bonus, How pastures work, etc.) or a how a gene works (recessives like flaxen, what is needed for snowflake, how to buy a fantasy gene, etc.) or anything else you think a new player might need to know.
New players (people who have joined the game in the past 6 months starting 10-10-21), we will need your help in picking a winner! You are encouraged to play/join, especially since you have more recent experience with the ‘learning curve’, or you can win prizes for clicking the Thanks link/button on tutorials you find particularly helpful. All the names of new players who click Thanks will be tossed in a hat and 3 random names will be drawn for new player winners. Don’t just randomly click everything, though, more than 3 or 4 Thanks will not be counted!PLEASE NOTE: the Thanks option is not available on the mobile version of the game, so use the desktop version if you can, and if there is still a problem, let me know and we’ll get it handled.
You may use a previous post IF YOU ARE THE AUTHOR OF THE EXPLANATION, and the original thread is less than a year old. For example, if Ammit started a thread on how to create an embryo, and you posted an additional comment about how to pull straws before you can create the embryo, then you can use that comment/post (about pulling straws) for your entry, but not the whole post about creating the embryo.
Keep in mind that the tack feature/colors is in the process of being updated, so that is probably not the best choice to explain.ENTER
To enter, reply on this thread. Try to keep entries as concise and as short as possible (I know…that’s going to be the hard part…but please try!)
Put your Stable ID# at the top of your comment, give your lesson a title, then enter your explanation.
Example:

How to Make Money using Bootstrapping
If you enter the Tutorial part of the game, you may not enter the new player part of the game. One or the other, but not both.
Decent punctuation, grammar, capitalization, etc. , WILL be a part of the deciding factor! Again, it doesn’t have to be perfect but do, please, try your best!
Remember, this is to help new players so limit the abbreviations and “Haj-speak”!
The game will run until rollover on Friday 10-31-21. Prizes will be awarded 11-2-21.PRIZES

What is a chimera?
A chimera is basically a horse that has two sets of DNA. In the game they used to be referred to as Brindles and simply showed a striped body with no impact on breeding. Since Ammit updated the genetics they now reflect how a real life chimera would pass on its genes.
Each chimera in the game (that has been gene tested) will show two complete sets of DNA. If the horse has been created, in other words a Foundation horse, then there will probably be only one small difference between the DNA sets. For example, this is one of my own horses that was created using the Peach Ice Cream Herd Helper which gives a chimera horse (among other things).
MIN Pick N Mix
If you look at her two DNA sets, they are identical except for a copy of W20 on the second set and the fact that the first set has no White Factor and the second set has Minimal White Factor. Visually, there is not much to see compared to some chimera horses.
When you breed from a Chimera, the horse will only pass on the genes from ONE of its two sets of DNA. Think of it as being two horses in one body, but only one of the horses gets to breed randomly each time.
Chimeras can spontaneously occur in the game, but the chance is very rare. Breeding two Chimeras together will not guarantee getting a Chimera foal, it does happen, but the chances are small.
If you would like to create your own Chimera (other than using a Herd Helper) then you can do so using Gene Modification Tokens (GMTs). Go into Gene Mod Treatment, choose a horse to modify and go to the bottom of the page where you will see the option to merge another of your horses into your chosen one. It will cost you 10 GMTs.
Chimeras are a fun part of the game and it is always a lovely surprise to breed one.HAJ1 White Valley #60847 HAJ3 minimum #175

This question gets brought up every few months so I figured it would be a perfect one for this contest!
Breeding Ability (Paper Level) vs Performance Test Score (PT)
A horses performance test score (PT) is completely unrelated to it's breeding ability (which is measured by paper level). The only thing that impacts how good the offspring will be is the horses breeding ability. A horse with a high breeding ability can produce both strong breeders and strong showers, although not every foal will be both. (Side note that inconsistency is inheritable)
PT Scores are on a range of 0.00-15.XX (I have never seen a 16 score although it could be possible)
Paper Levels are different for mares/stallions are are as follows (lowest on left side)
Mares: Yellow - Red - Blue - *Gold
Stallions: C - B - A - *Star
Here are few common herd helpers and how they correlate with PT and paper level:
Perfect Foundations are good breeders (yellow/C papered) and good showers with a PT score of 9.90
Exceptionally Perfect are exceptional breeders (red/B papered) and exceptional showers with a PT score of 10.40.
Exceptional Producers are guaranteed to be excellent breeders (red/B papered), but PT scores vary
Exceptional Showers are guaranteed to be excellent showers but breeding ability will vary -

How do closed genes and gene licences work?
Some genes are not available on created horses. Intact horses with that gene can only be purchased if you have a license for it. Gelded and spayed show horses with closed genes can be purchased without owning the license. These are mostly fantasy genes and the gene is listed in glowing purple when you view the horse's page.
Closed genes are purchased through the roving gene sale and are rarely made available through the GMT lab. Splash M is a closed gene that is available in the GMT lab all the time. Once you purchase the gene by adding it to a horse you will own the license and can breed and buy horses with that gene. Horses with closed genes can only be bought and sold via private sales or through an auction (they can't be put up for sale through the horse's page).
To see what licenses you or another member own, go to the member's stable overview page and click on the section for Owned Closed Gene Licenses. This will show all owned licenses highlighted in green and all non-owned licenses grayed out.
Some fantasy genes do not require a license and horses with that gene can be purchased through auction without a license. These genes are shown in orange on the horse's page. -
(This one stumped me when I first started so figured it would help others to get better foals)

How To Use Pastures
Pastures are a wonderful tool to use in your breeding program to create foals that might have a higher chance of passing Breeding Advice (also known as BA) and for a reduced breeding price!
First, pick your stallion and however many mares you want to move to a pasture. From their control panel, select the drop down menu on "pasture" and choose which one you want to use. Or for mass moving, check their box on the barn overview page, scroll down, and select the pasture drop down menu. Click "move horses" and you should see them disappear only to now be in your pastures. Remember that stallions must be at least 3 years old, and mares have to be four years old as well as unbred for the season.
I suggest getting pastures ready as far in advance as you can. The more "days" your horses spend in pasture, the better your foals will be in regards to genetics and overall scores. You can see how many days your horses have been in by looking at them on the pasture overview page. Unlike regular in-house breeding, pastures don't open on the same day. No matter what status account you have, pastures open on the 5th of the month. Once it's that day, at the top of the overview page you will see the rundown of how many stallions and breedable mares you have in the currently selected pasture, as well as a cost to do so. Each mare costs only 500 HBs to breed in pastures instead of 1,000!
Once you click on "breed this pasture", the page will refresh and you will be given a rundown of how many foals have survived, if any pairings did not make it, and that a pasture email has been sent. Definitely check this email as it will state which foal is considered the best out of the crop. Scroll all the way down on the overview to see all of the foals you've created. It is very important to move them out of the pasture as soon as possible; any foals left in the pasture will be sold by the end of the season. Click the check box at the upper corner of the foal overview and select all, then move to the barn drop down menu to place them in whatever barn you want. After you've moved them safely, now you can check out all the beautiful foals you've created!- Specializing in W3, DFP1, SB2 & Natural Bred Chimera -

How to sign up for the newsletter
After reading the contest description, I realized that although I am signed up for the newsletter, I don't remember how to sign up for it. It's a good thing that teaching others is a great way to learn! The newsletter always comes with a super-secret link to create a foundation with 1000 points, and often includes special access to more exclusive Rank Specials and other goodies, so it's a good one to sign up for! Here's how you do it:
From any page on Hunt and Jump, navigate to the left-hand side bar and click on "Member Home" under "My Stable". This will take you to your home page, which has lots of different features to help you manage your stable and your account.
On your home page, you will see a list of drop-down tabs. Click the second one down: "Account and Stable Management". Under the first header, "Account Management", click the link that says "Manage Email Settings".
Scroll down the page and fill out the Newsletter sign-up form. Voila! You now have security clearance for all the latest updates Ammit has to offer.
