Hopefully y’all don’t mind me posting!

I just had a real life filly born this morning and she came out in a most unexpected color! Black with a blue eye!

Her dam is a buckskin with a star who obviously is Aa Ee Cr/n at this time with the birth of this baby and previous foals...she has not been color tested before. Her dam’s parents were a buckskin sire and chestnut dam. None are known for having any sort of splash gene.

Her sire is a bay who is Aa Ee and has been tested negative for all the splash genes, so it is impossible that this blue eye came from the sire.

What do y’all think? Where did this blue eye come from?

Any paint or appaloosa genes? Those can also affect eye color, if I remember correctly.

Thank you and no, she's AQHA! The splash genes seem to run rampant through a lot of the reining bred horses, it's just weird because she shouldn't have the eye!

Well she sure sounds gorgeous! Not sure where the Blue eye would have came from unless it runs in her Bloodline.

I do know that a friend of mine had a Stallion that was Black Tobiano and he had Dark Brown eyes. Most the Stallion’s offspring had at least one Blue eye. Turned out that Blue eyes were in his Bloodline.

@EvieC I also know a black tobiano stud, brown eyes, and both of his babies born at our place last year ended up with a blue eye each (both mares have brown eyes as well). Funny how those things just get passed down lol

Haha yeah, but apparently the sire has tested negative for all the splash genes, so I honestly questioned paternity but it was one AI last year so unless the vet or the courtier made a mistake it’s gotta be my mare. Gonna pull a color panel to find out!

All the testable splash genes. That doesn't mean they don't have a splash mutation anways. Photos of all 3 would help a ton in giving moreinfo. :)

"All the testable splash genes." Are there untestable splash genes then?

To post a picture, go to the horse and under its picture and genetic testing you'll see a box that says share this horse with a big wall of text. Copy the text and paste it into a comment and it will link the horse.

Ok let’s see if this works! I included pics of her at about 8 hours old in the grass, and freshly born in the barn. Dad is the bay, mom is of course the buckskin mare! Mom has had 5 foals now and none have exhibited any splash genes whatsoever.

Also, I believe her to be black, but what do y’all think? Several people in the land of the facebook believe she’s bay like her sire.

She’s beautiful! I’m thinking she’s either a bay or a smokey black. Is it possible to have splash with zero white factor?

She is so cute and moma is a stunner. She looks black to me, but my experience with brand new babies is pretty small. You’re welcome for the tips. :)
